its not that much the GT is probably about 4 or 5 hundred pounds more then a notch if even that that may be stretching it a little

My friends 90 Gt was lighter than my 3170lb hatch.

Gt's weigh very little different than a hatch. Notch's weigh very little different than a hatch. probably a 50 lb difference between them.

People seem to forget that the trunks on the notch's have weight to them just like the hatch's on a hatchback weigh something.

A gt's ground effect's are very light (ever picked a bumper/side skirt up?). People forget that the lx's have bumpers too. The gt just has a foglight bracket that weighs some weight.

The weight difference between a non-optioned 5spd notch coupe vs. a Gt (optioned out) auto/vert can be 500lbs.

I've been told 200lbs by one guy and 75 lbs be another. I wish I could get a solid answer on this one. I found a nice hatch and if there is a HUGE wgt difference then I'd pass it up. But 50-75 lbs won't stop me.

I don't even think the hatch itself weighs 150lbs alone. The notch has a back glass/trunk/metal area as well. I would say it isn't more than 75lbs difference if that. All options being equal.

It's not like a hatchback has a hatch and a trunk and another window like the guy that told you 200lb difference

About right; figure about 75-100 lbs. difference between an LX hatch and LX notch. The quarter windows are a bit bigger on hatches, as are the hatch glass, and maybe a bit more sheetmetal. That being said, go with whatever you like. It's not like the extra weight is in a bad place on a hatchback either. The 'verts are another story altogether.........

The only real weight dif. between GT's and Lx's is the foglight crap, the ground effects are very light, i picked up my side skirt yesterday and i think it was 3 pounds, lol

My 88 GT, 5 speed, sunroof, no front sway bar, subframe connectors, ds loop, no radio, spare still in it, no sound insulation in trunk or under rear seats, removed dog bone, aluminum ds, Ponys, less than 1/8 of gas, was 3260

89 LX Hatchback, 5 speed, GT interior, sunroof, no sound insulation in trunk or under rear seat, no dogbone, Pro Star Knockoffs, no smog pump, aluminum ds, less than 1/8 of gas, was 3200

89 LX Hatchback, 5 Speed, GT interior, no sound insulation in trunk or under rear seat, no dog bone, 17inch Chrome Cobra R knockoffs, Saleen body kit, Powerdyne blower, 1/4 of gas, was 3300

Those weights are with me in it, I weighed around 130 then.

My friend's 93 Notch with no sound insulation in the trunk and under the rear seat, no smog, Ponys weighs 3140 with him in it, he weighs 160 or so.

This is so far from wrong it's not even funny. People spreading this must be how I always hear "a notchback weighs like 2500 pounds" "notchbacks are sooooo much lighter"

Yea, they are lighter, by 40-80 pounds. The GT ISNT much heavier than an LX hatchback either. It's the same damn car except for some side skirts, little longer bumpers, fog lights and the brace in the lower part of the front bmper.

It also depends on the year. My 87 coupe with 5.0 option, AOD, power windows and locks, and a/c weighs 3100 pounds from the factory. The hatch does weigh alot on the hatchbacks.

87-93 are all close in weight with minor differences, this is comparing cars with the same options.

The hatchback is heavy but like 5spd GT said, you are comparing a hatch to a car that still has a trunk and back glass. You have to figure in the weight difference of the hatch vs the notchbacks trunk and everything, not just take the weight of the hatch off and figure thats what a notchback weighs.

That was confusing.

my gt weighed 3300 (without me) before weight reduction. i took out the rear seats, the insulation, front racing seats and it weighed 3300 with me (- 180lbs = 3120). i have since removed the AC(replaced by a UPR pulley)condensor and all engine bay lines, taken some misc things off, and have yet to take off the fog light brackets. i will soon go back to weigh it. these weights were also on landscaper scale to weigh the amount of rock/mulch/dirt in a dump truck so the scale might not be entirely accurate.

That sounds a little high but things can change like that it being an AOD and how much gas you have. That can make a 40 pound difference between two cars!

Ok well, I am going to find REAL numbers and not estimates so we can all bury this thread to be searched on later. I'll find either both cars with no options or full options. Of course with the hatch I will find GT and LX. And if I'm ambitious enough I'll even find vert and vert GT. I will only find 87-93. Someone from the 4 eyed crowd will have to do the research on that.

Sellers appear to want more $ for the notchbacks. I guess it would be nice to have a trunk to re-locate the battery and mount the nitrous bottle...

My '92LX notch 5spd weighs 3080 with spare tire/jack removed and 1/4 tank of gas.
I figure the spare/jack weigh a solid 40lbs, that puts my LX notch at 3125.
That gives a 60lb weight difference between your GT and my notch.

I have:
GT interior (pwr mirrors, lumbar seats, cruise control).
a/c delete (from the factory).
manual windows and locks.
factory radio/cassette/equalizer deal.
factory trunk lid spoiler.

add a/c to my car and we're probably closer to 30lbs difference.
