whant to paint eng bay but

i would like to paint the eng bay when the rest of the car gets painted fill holes and all that good stuff.
but i'm scared of the wireing. the eng. is out and is going to be re built. just about everything elese i can do however i worred about the wireing harness. i'm scared i'm going to not be able to put it back right.
- do you guys have any tips on not getting the wires all mixed up? i'm guessing that some tape and marking where it goes
any help would be great

in fact what all do i need to remove to limit the prep work the paint shop has to do.
that way it should be cheaper for me

Don't worry about it. Replacing the engine harness is fail proof. Every plug is a different shape then the next. Ford put built-in locating pins in the plugs, so even if there are two that look alike, they can't be switched. You can do it, trust me. IF you still feel uneasy, get string and tags, and label everything if you want to. You will not screw it up.

duct tape and a sharpie are your friends. Label each side of each conection with the same number (1,2,3) and all you have to do is play a matching game. Not too bad at all, but as SVT said, even if you don't you can figure it out with some time and patience.

lol thats so reassuring, i was looking at the huge pile of wires i have pulled out of my bay today and i was like "how am i gonna get this back together?" haha, i figured they were all different but i didnt want to find out the hard way that they arent

the more you remove the cheaper the price should be.
everything i've read says to remove anything that is attached to the fenders,as much wiring as you can, brake booster, proporting valve, wiper motor, and any thing that was attached to the engine like power steering or a/c, fuel lines.. the cleaner you send it to the painter and the less masking and extra time spend in his prep work the better the job will turn out also.

if you do decide to remove the wires mark the wires with labels and take as many pix as you possibly can for later reference.
i'm think about doing the samething to my stang so i've been reading up as much as i can on the subject so that when i do mine things will be easy to do.

Make sure you take some pictures beforehand too in case you get confused at all.
