You didn't notice a problem before you took off the midpipe?

That sucks.You didn't notice any loseness from the trans .

Somewhat...not a whole lot. Remember, this is my first car, let alone first manual car, so I'm no expert. Should stiffen things up a bit

No idea. My suspition is that the previous owner took it into a ditch. When I first bought the car and went to do a couple fluid changes, there was a lot of sticks/grass stuck inbetween stuff under there. Now, don't ask me how I missed it the first time I was under there, but it was probably because the midpipe was obstructing my view.
