what about the 2000GT's?

i am going to look at a 2000 gt, 5spd 115,000. from the reading i have been doing it sounds like that was a prety solid year. it has the pi stuff already? and more hp than th 96-like what 98 or something? i have owned two 5.0s and i love them but i want to try a mod motor this time. it will probably just get the usual bolt ons and be left like that. am i doing myself a favor going with 2000 rather than like a 97? thanks. i am freekin excited about this car

Yes 99-04 have the PI stuff from the factory and are much better cars, in some opinions. 01+ have the better intake, but it seems some have problems and some dont. The problem is the crossover that can crack and leak antifreeze. Best of luck! I was hooked when I got my first mod motor car

Yes. You'll love it. Why go bolt ons when you can drop $4k in a mongoose kit and easily put down ~375rwhp? Done.

i actually probably will do something like that in ther future. but not while it is my main driver. i just sold a streetbike, and i am selling my 95 rearended vert, and trashing or donating or something my litte 84 subaru gas mobil that i got for 200 bucks that has been jumped a few to many times. and i bought a 87 ranger x cab, 5 spd,4x4 crawler project that is geting sas'd. so i am kinda starting the cycle over, for a while i will just have the mustang and the ranger (keepin it ford)haha. it will be nice only have two vehicles for a while, more focus on them. still got my yz so i guess i got 3 still haha

2000's are cool. The only brand new car I ever bought was a 2000 GT Vert. Had every option but cruise controll. Was a cool car though and I put about 4K on it before the engine failed but Ford put a new one in it in undeer a week and it was MUCH quicker with the new motor.

I love my 00'. Yea, I wish it had the nice little additions the 01's+ have, like a double din radio and better center console layout. I still have the plastic intake and just shy of 139k, it still hasnt cracked. I think its all in how you treat it.

Mods are in sig. Parts I have replaced since purchased with 62k include: Thermostat (partial stuck open), IAC valve, upper/lower rad hoses, clutch and T/O bearing (bad bearing), and a battery. The rear diff bearings did have some pitting in them when I had it apart for the gears, those were all replaced with new.

You could find one with a lot lower miles then that. I would look for a 01-04. My 01 had the crappy plastic crossover intake. Halfway in the 01 model year is when the changed it.

well i really like the mod motor thats for shure. the car is not perfect but i am going to address the issues right away. the motor seems to be in good shape and the car pulls hard. i paid 3500, i am happy with it.

yeah i am happy with it. it does have its little issues but seems mechanically sound. i am going to have it checked out at the shop i used to work at, and i can start from there. i want to make sure the timing belts are good, and stuff and replace anything that needs.
if 115,000 miles is alot than that is not saying too much about a 4.6. either way when it is the motors time it will cost around the same for me to throw in a 5.4

dont bother with a 5.4 they don't make any extra power NA

when it's time for a new motor get a aluminum block 4.6 and go big bore if your budget allows

No belts, only chains for the timing. They are good for 250K+. Tensioners wear out around 100-150K though. I have over 140K on my 4.6 and it runs strong with not one noise or leak and still spanks Hemis with 40 more hp.
Before we bought the F-150 last week we drove a half dozen trucks with 4.6's and well over 200K on them and they all ran spectacular. Coils and intake are the only issues the 4.6 really suffers from. Well spark plugs too but if you never try and swap them when the engine is hot or warm then its not an issue eaither as long as its torqued to spec.

this car shreds, its way faster than my old 5.0. and its handles and brakes way beter. needs a tri ax or something. i have a superchip programmer and some bbk underdrive pulleys that need to be installed. it has some flowmasters and 3 inch tips, it sounds prety awesome, really agressive sounding

Sell the Superchips and get a SCT
Also before you start a thread on it get the MGW shifter. Best shifter in the world IMHO. There will be some people on here that like others better but if you do a poll about 75% will say MGW. Short precise shifts. Places the grip right in your hand and its damn near impossiable to miss 3rd.

I am not a fan of underdrives because its hot here and the A/C sux at idle with them. Also I usually have a system and at idle the alt cant keep up, worse at night.

Glad you like it, and that it's working out for you! I bought my first Mustang, a 95 GTS about 4 months ago and I couldn't be happier! The mod motors in insane compared to the 5.0's though, stock for stock especially. All I hear, too, is how well those motors respond to boost! Good luck with the car, hope everything goes well with it!
