what all do i need going from efi to carb?

besides the carb, intake and new different distributer......as far as fuel systems go what do i need?

I know for starters that you need a mechanical fuel pump. Dunno other than that though.

You need a fuel pump that pumps more along the lines of 10-15 psi out the pump and a regulator under the hood that drops it to the 7-8 psi the carb needs. EFI pump is way too much pressure.

You will need soem kind of ignition too. If I may offer an option to consider...I'd run a MSD Billet Ready-To-Run Distributor with a steel distributor gear. It's a 3 wire hook up totally self contained ignition good to 9000 rpm.

I have the pn's at home it's 2 parts. Distributor and gear for the roller cam. Add a coil and you are ready to go.

You can buy electric pumps for carbs too. They are not in-tank pumps though.

The distributor pn is #8352 $353.88 at Summit
The correct steel gear pn is #85833 $67.88 at Summit (cough F-job cough)

FRPP has steel distributor gears ( M-12390-B ) for MSRP $45 and it's the right size.

i already have msd 6al thats in the box.....would a distributer out of an 85 or 84 5.0 work? i really dont want to spen 300$ on a distributer

Any distributor for a carb 302 will work as long as it has a steel distributor drive gear.

You may be able to put the drive gear from your EFI distributor onto the non-roller distributor.

thats good...where can i fina good in-tank fuel pump that will work with a carb setup? how much?

Distributor shaft on a roller distributor is bigger around than a non efi 302 distributor, so the gears will not interchange. Get a distributor for a 85 GT manual trans. Comes with a magnetic trigger and a steel gear. About $55 for a reman. It is easier for you to read Jason Fletcher's site than for me to write it all out. Good luck.

If you want to go to an external electric fuel pump I suggest the holley blue. There are more quiet pumps but for my hard earned dough this is the pump. Also cartech systems makes a fuel tank insert that goes in place of your efi pump, and even reuses the pick up screen. It has larger lines than the crappy inserts sold in jegs and summit, and is only $100. Hit the link and scroll down. http://www.cartech.net/fuelsystems.htm

FRPP sells steel gears for several shaft sizes, but you have to look in the catalog if you search the website it comes up with only two hits and they are way off in price. Their are at least 4 steel distributor gears in the catalog.

i just got a distributer out of an 85 5.o........so the holley blue pump is my best bet? by the way i love the fuel pump whine lol

Holley blue is my best bet. Mallory pumps are smoother and quieter but alot more dough.

what intake should i get.....i was wanting a single plane but i think i dual would be more streetable...and would a holley 750cfm vacumm secondary be good enough or should i get a double pumper?

Is the carb going on your 331? Is it a street only machine?

I'd recomend nothing over 650CFM for a street car with a Weiand Stealth intake.

A single plane will give you more horsepower but a dual plane will give more torque. So a dual plane would be more streetable.

Use a vacuum secondary for streetability. I liked 'em so much I use two.

Does anyone know if the timing chain cover for the '86 H.O. takes a 2-piece or 1-piece gear drive for a mechanical fuel pump?

Alternately, who can recommend an in-line electric pump that only cranks out 6-8 psi for us carbureted dinosaurs?
