once my alpine subs break in (type S 12's) im going to need a good amp to power them. my profile is struggling to move them. the gain is maxed and the bass boost is at about 3/4. the guy at the shop i go to showed me an alpine and a kenwood amp, but i wanted to see what you guys recommend.
I have a kenwood excelon amp. It was expensive, but I've never had a problem with it (3 years of hard use, plus getting knocked around in my old car). ALthough I think mine is better for powering the regular speakers and not subs, it works well for my mtx thnder 6000. I think I have the older excelon 301T or something. The 250watt rms amp, so it matches the speaker almost perfectly when run in mono in terms of power handling.
I'd say a JBL BP600.1 or a HiFonics BX 1000D. JBL would give them 300w RMS each, HiFonics would give them 250w RMS. Both are solid amps, and should power the Type-S's nicely.

Stick with Alpine? The 12" type S subs are rated at 200wRMS I believe (my son has a pair of 'em).
Look for an Alpine MRD-M300 to power the pair. Nice Class-D amp, easy to set up and lots of headroom. It'll thump. It's 300watts RMS (but the specimen you receive will be tested and have a higher output). It'll move those type S's, that's for sure, and it won't break the bank.
Even better is the fact that it's a 2003 model, and being closed out at $229.00 at Crutchfield no less (free shipping too!).
my brother has a RF 451s supposed to be 450rms but the birthsheet says 499. So I think you could get a rockford fosgate 401s that is 400rms then if you spilt that you will have 200rms to each.
