What are good headgaskets??

Fel Pro. The solid blue ones ( w/printoseal). Like $100 bucks a set. Don't go with MLS or copper head gaskets. I'd rather blow a fuse than a motor.

i agree use the blue felpro had no trouble with them even when i was jetted for 150hp juice shot. never given me a worry

Yes. You have much higher cylinder pressure. Get the Fel Pro gaskets. And studs if you don't have them.

Fel Pro is the way to go!

when i rebuilded my engine i bought the FORD copper gaskets for about $100ame with bolts too... i run 12 psi and no probs so far... from what i've read and stuff the gaskets are made by fel pro

If you go with a Cometic MLS or Fel-Pro MLS (Mulitple Layer Steel) style gasket instead of blowing the gasket you'll pull the crown up on the piston or break other parts. They are not for novices... The MLS style gaskets also require a certain RA finish on the block and head.

I'd suggest the direct replacement gasket from Fel-Pro they are like a 8548PT-2 ($21/each)or the 10111($32/each) (upgraded gasket). The direct replacement (cheapest gasket) can hold a lot of boost but the tune needs to be there, the 10111 will be a little more forgiving. I have seen the PT2 take 28psi on boost from a 800HP+ combo.

I would upgrade to head studs if you don't already have them, make sure the deck and head are flat.

ALL HEADGASKETS WILL BLOW, if the tune is not right, you get greedy, or the surfaces are not flat. Can you get a pic of the gasket, this will tell us how it blew and we can make a more educated guess as to why.

What do the plugs look like? What gas were you running? In the winter months all gas stations switch to a "winterized" gas which has a lot more oxygen in it and this will create a lot of issues on a power adder car. It will make more power and the fuel demands will change. We pulled the crown up on a piston fresh off the dyno and datalog runs by adding in some of the winterrized gas. Be Careful, Exxon and Sunoco are the most highly oxgenated brands.

Yeah they need about a 15 micro inch finish. Most older V8's block and heads are machined to around 40 micro inch.

Yes that is correct, near mirror finish

dont forget the 9333PT-1 ( 289-302HP and racing applications ) I have 2 friends that use a big amount of nitrous and these seem to hold up a little better than the 8548PT2 gaskets
