What are some signs of a bad fuel pump?

I have a strange surging idle (not a vacuum leak) and a lugging problem in almost all RPM ranges. I noticed when I was letting my car warm up that when the car surged, the whine from the fuel pump went away. When it started whinning again the car picked up again. Just trying to narrow down my problem. Thanks.

do you have any mods? I know my car is basically stock, but my pump is pretty much shot and whines really bad no matter WHAT. Usually i would equate a whining pump with chevy trucks, so i plan on swapping mine out when i put the 3.73's in. do you have a fuel pressure regulator? If so, could that be calibrated incorrectly? Installed incorrectly? You may just need a pump, in which case, i'd say a 190 unless your charged

The only mods I have are pulleys and exhaust so nothing that could affect fuel delivery. My pump always whines so when it STOPS whining and the car surges, I think I have a problem. The difference in price between a 190 and 255 unit is small so I thought I would just get a 255 piece. Will one that big hurt anything?

A 255 won't hurt anything. The fuel pressure regulator will regulate how much fuel is used, not the actual pump to the best of my knowledge. Actually, I'll post a link up on here later that has really cheap Walbro fuel pumps if you want. Yours is probably just going bad cause it's a piece of crap like my old one was...might as well just drop a bigger one in there if you ever need it.

Still no dice man. I will check in the morning, I have class early and work late lol!

UGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
I do know where to get cheap fuel pumps, but I never said I was very computer literate. Try http://64.4.8.250/cgi-bin/linkrd?_l...performanceengineering.com/html/fuelpump.html or www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/fuelpump.html

I just tried the address above by typing it in and it worked fine, so if neither of those work, try typing in (I'll leave spaces so it won't show up like an address, but don't type any spaces when you do it) http:// www. autoperformanceengineering.com /html /fuelpump.html

If that doesn't work, just try going to autoperformanceengineering.com and navigating around to find it. If all this doesn't work, just e-mail me when you get your e-mail up and I'll forward it to you.

If all this doesn't work, I'll shoot myself........

Good Luck!!!!

What is the difference between the 255lph and the "High Pressure" 255lph pump? It is only a $15 difference. I have never heard of the site before, you said you ordered from them before, did everything go OK?

I've actually ordered two from them so far and a couple of friends of mine have ordered one too. Everything went smooth and I trust them. The friend of mine got the 255, but I stuck with the 190. Don't think I'll need any more, but he got the FPF003 just so you know....the high pressure 255. Worked out fine. I don't think it will make a substantial difference which one you choose....just look at the charts on the site if you want info on each pump. I believe shipping was included in the price listed on the page. I'm not certain, but pretty sure. Hey, at least the link worked.
