I ordered the GT500 (Brembo) front brake upgrade and the Steeda 13" rear brake upgrade for my Mustang and I want to know what brake fluid I should use.

The GT500 Kit comes with 14" rotors, 4 piston Brembo calipers, SS brake lines for front and back, and rear brake pads. The Steeda kit comes with 13" rotors, relocation brackets, and SS lines. So the only component I don't have yet is the brake fluid. So I want to know what brand and DOT level I should use that would work best with this combo. Thanks.

The Ford motorcraft DOT 3 fluid is what I used to use when I open tracked. It has a hell of a boiling point (550 F, only a few that are better), though it goes to crap when the fluid gets moisture in it. It's really cheap, so I just flushed about a can through it before and after every event. If you don't track it much, then I wouldn't worry about which fluid you use (in which case get the same motorcraft stuff cus it's cheap).

List of good fluids and their boiling points:

Brand Name DOT Wet Dry Compat*
========== === === === =======
Castrol SRF 4 518 590 Yes
..Motul 600 4 421 585 No silicone
......AP-600 3 284 572 No**
Wilwood 570 3 284 570 Yes
......AP-550 3 284 550 Yes
.Motorcraft 3 284 550 Yes
PFC Z-rated 3 284 550 Yes
Castrol LMA 4 311 446 Yes

* =Compatible with other fluids
** Not DOT approved for highway use

P.S. Yeah, I posted the same thing in two forums, but useful info.

Motul 600 is what I've been told to run by several people when inquiring about the track. It's got a higher boiling point than the OEM but is just as resistant to moisture as OEM.

I assume you're going to be tracking the car. I use Motul RBF600. Great stuff at a reasonable price and with it's higher wet boiling point, if I skip a track bleed or two I don't have to sweat it.

Not trying to highjack your thread but could you clear something up for me? Do your GT500 Brembos have staggered pistons or are they the same size? And please, let us know how those Steeda rears work out. I've been wondering about those for awhile now.

Adding to threadjack:

Yeah I'm worried about the steeda rears and brake balance/antilock brakes.

All,

My brakes are supposed to be here on Saturday so I will let you know about the GT500 brakes then. I will have to let you know about the Steedas after some time with them.

Thanks.
