What brand of shocks to use?

On my 94 GT, I have motorcraft shocks. I'm looking to upgrade to a better quality shock for better handling. What are some good shocks to buy?

Anything is better then blown oem motorcraft shocks, If you are in a budget i would go KYB GR-2's for a normal street car. If you got little more cash then Tokico blues.

If you want adjustable stuff then look into Koni's

FWIW... both KYB and Tokico are OEM manafacturers for Ford as well as Toyota & Nissan and a host of others. If you prefer a stock type ride quality I'd stick with either of the above. Motorcraft is made by Tokico I'd bet. If you really want it to ride like azz throw some Monroe or the like on there...

I have run both Bilstein & Tokico myself. Tokico is my brand choice as I like smooth ride and run them on my Tacoma, Pathfinder and the Mustang...The FRPP Bullitt/Mach shocks & strut kits are a nice pkg for the money, made by Tokico by the way.

Will I notice and feel the difference if I get the Tokico struts and shocks over the Motorcraft? Or is it going to be about the same?

How much you looking to spend??? Bils/ Koni are sweet but you pay like a mofo for them.

Tokico Blue's will be a premium shock/strut... Mach or Bullitts are prolly the same just Black or Grey and might be a tad more... but deals can be had.

If your running blown shocks with like 100k on em anything is gonna be better...comes down to money. Even adding new shock/strut will be a mucho dif over blown units but high milage cars do have other worn items the new shocks wont cure...Like hammered out bushings and such.

I'm not looking to spend a lot. Bilsteins, to much money for me to spend..The tokicos are not bad price for the set.. I just want something just a little better than motorcraft.

The 10-way adjustable Strange Engineering shocks/struts is it for drag race use? Or street use?

I have always used the Tokico adjustables. Not too long ago I did a suspension setup in a friend's car and we had to buy the struts and shocks last minute, and Summit didn't sell Tokico. We got the KYB adjustable ones. Not only were the adjustment knobs in a better location, I think they did as good a job if not better than my Tokicos. The KYB adjustables are about the same price as the non adjustable Tokicos. I totally recommend the KYBs now.

Well, that's the beauty of 10-way adjustables. You can dial them in for road racing, drag racing or just everyday driving.

When set to the softest settings the ride is softer than stock.
When set to the hardest settings then you better not need to go pee on a bumpy road.

I set my front struts to 3 and rear shocks to 2 for everyday city driving.

For drag racing I set the front struts to 1 (softest) and rear shocks to 10 (stiffest) to plant the rear tires on the launch from the starting line.

Also, I have FRPP 'B' springs which are lowering springs that are closest to the stock spring rates I could find.
And, I have Lakewood lower control arms and FRPP upper control arms which tighten up the rear suspension from stock.

We got them from Summit Racing. They probably have the best price or damn close to it.

I'm still deciding on Tokicos or KYB. Are Tokicos and KYB made in USA?

I already removed my old motorcraft strut. Is safe to zap off the top nut on the strut with an impact?

Just to muddy the waters a bit, I'll throw in a plug for the Eibachs.

I already had the Eibach lowering springs, so I bought the shocks/struts to match. I'm very happy with the ride, handling, etc. Price was pretty good too, IIRC.

Have you lowered your car? If so, what springs did you use? It's not a bad idea to go with the shocks/struts engineered to dampen the springs you're running, if they're offered.

Yes, my mustang is lowered about an inch. I'm not sure what brand springs but I was told maybe Ford Racing springs?

Agree, I have KYB AGX adjustables front and rear, used to have KYB GR2's, I like the way the car feels with softest setting (1) in front and 4th setting in rear. Fronts have 4 positions for adjustment and rears have 8. Got them off Ebay for a very reduced price, $240 new, 1 adjuster was missing in front, ordered a new one over the phone (free) they sent 2. Very nice shocks.
