What can we polish on our cars?

I think I got the hang of polishing now that I've talked to someone for awhile last night that helped me out with all my questions. So this brings me to my next question on what can we (the sn95 guys) polish on our cars? I would post this in the talk section but its mostly fox guys who I see in there.

I know we can polish the altinator, altinator bracket, tensioner, power steering bracket, but what else? I'm looking for a few easy things to start off with.

Are the supports that hold the radiator in place aluminum, steel, or stainless? What about the bracket that holds the coil on? I want to polish my altinator bracket right now but I dont think I have all the right tools to do so at the moment.

The coil braket is steel but I polished it anyway. I have to maintain it more than any other part though. Anything aluminum can be polished.

Thanks Vib. I thought the coil bracket was just steel but wasn't 100% sure. I think we might have some clear pait to spray over the bracket when I'm done.

How hard was it for you to polish the powersteering pump bracket?

do the PS braket for sure.. that looks really nice!

you could try the Thermastat housing, distriubtor base, maybe even the Alt braket.

VibrantRedGT: did you remove the ps bracket when you polished it or did you just leave it in? how hard was it to remove if you did? just a few bolts eh?

1105: you could polish your maf and throttle body. also your hood prop.

Dan I actually left it in. I used a die grinder with a 3M scuff pad on it first. Then sanded it with 400 grit by hand. Final was the compound for the shine.

My throttle body and elbow are allready polished (thanks Mike ) but I'm going to go back over them with some white rouge once my polishing skills get better. As for the maf its still stuck in the stock ait intake for now... Its going to be getting replaced soon so I don't want to waste any time on it. But the hood prop I'll probably do tomorrow.

I think the hood prop is steel... I sprayedsome clear spray paint over my coil bracket and it looks fine. The polish job isnt that great but I found out my problem.. I need a 2500 rpm drill and not my 1200 rpm drill I've been using

I didnt do the work myself because its grunt labor IMO. The only thing I did was the ac lines.

I can also have anything polished and chromed. Let me know if you want to get any work done. The guy I used does absolutly beautiful work.

isnt the hood prop steel?

Just go along BigJay's guide.. seems like hes got most everything done.

And what you cant polish you can either paint or have chromed!

i think the prop is steel but you can still polish it. it wont shine as good as aluminum but it will have some bling bling to it

You can polish steel but if you do not paint it it will rust. The best way to go is to chrome the steel items or paint them.

When I put my car together I painted some brackets and pulleys. The paint offsets the polished pieces and accents the expensive parts you have bought. Ever seen a car where EVERYthing is chromed or polished? It all runs togeter and you get lost as you stare. The same goes with the colored looms. Its just too much of the same color.

Judges look for CLEAN car with though behind it. Not just alot of chrome. Trust me I have a feature in MM&FF in the works as well as won a fair share of shows.

My favorite one is FFW Best Engine of the Show award.

Jay - what kind of paint did you use for all your bracketing? I am getting ready to paint all mine, I was just gonna use some high temp engine paint.

I used Dupont Automotive paint. Expensive but the quality of the paint made it easy to apply. It is not nessesary to use engine enamel. Only on the block and pan. Everything above the heads can be sprayed with car paint. Think about this. In the summer hear in Tucson you can fry and egg instantly on a black car. Thats around 300*. More than durable enough for and intake or brackets.
