Uhhhhhh, Uhh what is the Air Horn :shrug:

The #'s i have found are really small and look like part #'s, as they are all different.

I mean I don't even knowe if this is a 2v or 4v, dbl pumper? Man i'm clueless on carbs :bang:

Ok I think I found the # I need ( 4777-4 ). However, on Holls website the closest thing I can find is ( 4777C ) which is a Street/Strip 4v carb.

Now being A 4v raises other questions, I was under the impression I had a stock 289 2v, with a performer intake ( on the intake is says Performer 289)and Holly carb. Can you put a 4v carb on a stock 2v setup? so i pulled the valve cover and stamped on the head by the vale springs is ( 302 ). Does this mean there a 302 heads on here? I know next to nothing about the engine setup, as I picked this car up from a police auction.

some other #'s found on the head A3B, any help would be great as I try to figure out what combo is setup. also are there any more places to look to get mor info.

Thanks

ok...first of all...

2v and 4v difference is the number of 'Venturis' a carb has. Also referred to as...BARRELS. See the 4 circles that open up on the carb...those are venturis or barrels. If that was on an intake, it HAD to be a 4bbl.

You have an edelbrock or performance plus intake. Try to find the part number on the intake. I dont think that edelbrock even makes a 2bbl carb intake. The 2bbl and 4bbl intakes look idential except where the carb bolts. A 2bbl intake has a hole that is half the size of yours on your intake where the carb bolts to.

You have 302 heads it sounds like. There should be some other numbers/letters stamped on the heads. You may have a 289 with 302 heads. You will have to get under the car and look for the part number on the block to tell. OR you will have to remove the head and measure the bore and stroke.

let us know what you find out!

4777-4

4777 = 650 cfm double pumper
-4 = 4th generation design of that carb
Probably about 10 years old. My 750 was a 4th gen double pumper, came out in the early 90s.
Your intake is a non-emission Edelbrock Performer dual plane. It is lo-po, more or less equal to a stock intake, only lighter weight.
Someone has spent time mixing and matching parts on this engine. The fact that you have 302 heads would lead me to suspect that you have a 302 engine swap here, but you need to check numbers to know for sure.
Good luck
Dave

OK all the terms are coming into focus now, I will go try and pull some #'s from the block. A 302 conversion interesting development, this engine could be a nice suprise. it ran when I bought the car and sounded really good, it was the car that was undrivable, it also had hooker long tube headers and dual strait flowmasters. now to go # hunting. thanks for the replies. :worship:

OK here is what I got.

Block (the only #'s I can find) = 1A151501

Timing Chain Cover = 6B SHEFIELD C90E-6059-A

Heads = A3B 302

Carb = 4777 = 650 cfm double pumper -4 = 4th generation design of that carb

Intake = Edelbrock performer 289

So I wondering: is it a 289 w/ 302 heads or is it a 302, and if it is a 302 why would the PO use the Perfomer 289 Intake.

Someone please shed some light on this for me.
If yall need some more info please let me know

302 block

Now you are 90% sure it is a 302.
It adds up.

Someone could have gone through the trouble of installing a 289 rotating assembly in the block, but that seems unlikely. The only way to know for sure is check the crank and rods.

Call it a 302 and be happy.
When you ever rebuild the engine, then be concerned if it is a 289 crank & rods.

FWIW: 289 & 302 intakes are identical. Sometimes an intake gets dubbed 302 when there has been an update to the design or emissions related options have been added.

Good luck
Dave

i beleive those numbers make it a 71 302 block, but i could be wrong. either way, the only real way to know if its a 289 or a 302 is to pull the heads and check the stroke, as someone could have easily put a 289 crank/rods in it...but theres no need to do that anyways, as pretty much anything that will go on a 302 will go on a 289. for most purposes: 289=302.

ok I going with its a 302 :nice: just one more question from the above listed items, is it a pretty good setup. ok ine more, how would I go about finding moreinfo on this motor, year and all, is there some where on the web? well that was three :D thanks again for all the help :flag:
