what clutch are you guys using, im going to have about 425rwhp

More info will help folks to help you.

How is the car driven? what flavor of trans do you run? Do you use slicks? Do you mind tearing up said trans (having it be a weak link rather than the clutch)?

That kind of stuff will help.

Good luck.

www.nitrostangracing.com Get the promotion blueprinted/modified FMS HD pressure plate with the mcleod dual friction disk. Get the HD one NOT the modified king cobra. The modified fms HD WILL handle more power and rpm than the modified king cobra.

This is what I use and its no hard hitting chatter box clutch.

I run almost the identicle clutch as Mike. JT asked valid questions that should be addressed first, but remarkably the clutch Mike and I run does everything right. It'll hold way more power than you plan to have (and I suggest you over do it on the cluthc due to the fact that you have a convertible and its a good bit heavier than the coupes which makes it harder on clutches), its COMPLETELY streetable with no chatter, its easily slipped, and it'll hold like a mother at the track when running on slicks. I have driven cars with the other popular clutch that is "SPEC'd" out for high horsepower cars and I hate them as they are way too grabby, and they tend to tear up driveline parts due to their ON/OFF nature.

I run a "Kustom" clutch from Walt at Pro Motion. I'd suggest calling him and discussing your needs as he is the most knowledgable person i have ever spoken to when it comes to ford manual driveline components.

Another note: If you're running a T5, a "stronger" clutch is also going to be harder on the the trans.

With that said, I'd run said clutch without hesitating.

The KC may be a bit easier on the trans if you're orienting the car towards a street-only car.

I am running a el-cheapo autozone clutch with my t-5.

The only reason is I want to try and save my t-5 until I have enough cash for a tko...older tko or new-er ones like the 500-600. I just hope both last long enough for the cash to get saved. I would like to get some axles and a 31spline f-150 t-loc rear setup first though.

If the clutch fails it is a 100% FREE replacement from them.

Hi,
I have a Spec 2+ have only had it about 3 months... It's not bad... it is a on or off clutch though...

Steve

Thanks for posting that Steve. I get people mad at me all the time when I post that about the spec stuff, especially the stage 2. I like the pedal effort the spec stuff requires, but I hate how grabby it is.

The stock clutch is likely Valeo, which is a very good company (they supplied OEM clutches for many Italian stallions, etc).

My take is that as long as a given clutch is getting it done for you, great. I want as little clutch as I can get away with, so as to try and keep the clutch the weak (sacrificial) component in the driveline. WIth some things, the mantra 'if a little is good, more is better' works. Clutches aint one of them IMHO.

My two cents.

EDIT: I just read Troy's sig - I didn't know the stocker [clutch] would do that well, actually. I thought we were talking about a more sedate machine. I like Paul's reasoning myself (I take all the excuses I can get :rlaugh: ). That speaks well for the stock clutch - especially if it has been hanging in there for multiple passes. (I have the feeling that driver finesse is playing big on this one). :nice:

I think Spec is junk.
The springs fell out of my disc and were floating around in the pressure plate with almost no mileage.
And then the new disc and pressure plate I got had a clearance issue where the pressure plate was actually hitting the inside of the bellhousing so I had to tear it all apart and grind down the bellhousing.
Totally clueless.

it will be a street driven car, it will be at the track a couple times a year, im running a t-5, it will have a upgraded main shaft and a good set a astro performance gears and a pro5.0 shifter, so you guys think the motorsport hd would work fine? or do i need more?

I cant offer the advice that Paul and others can, but Troy's combo seems to be telling. I have just a regular HD Ford clutch and it bites (clamps) very good I think. That modified sucker that they were talkin about (I have seen Mike reference it before) seems like it might be kinda cool.

I have a Kind Cobra and it has been great over the last 10,000 miles or so. I dont abuse it or race with slicks, but on the street it has held up just fine with my power. The pedal feel is excellent as is the engagement.

FYI- Valeo makes all the Ford clutches, stock and Ford Racing.

Shaun, I did not make that blanket statement because I heard scuttlebutt that some KC's were not Valeo made (and not well-liked) - does that ring any bells with you? It was over on the Corral......
