What color for body side molding?

I'm currently re-painting my 89 LX. Going with Ford Performance Red. I can't decide whether to paint the side moldings body color or go with black.
Does anyone know how Ford offered these? Was there an extra cost option to have them body color or were they always black, except maybe the GTs' were body color?
If it makes any difference I'll be using 16" Pony wheels in their original silver color.

Personally I like the body colored moldings, the 92-93 LX's had the color key moldings, 87-91 LX's had the black belts.

Tough Choice

here is my white one.....I for sure wanted black mouldings...





But my red coupe...had black and I went Red?

i think black mouldings only look good on white cars. anything else should be body color

Ha, I was just thinking the black moldings work on a white car, but on a red car the colored molding looks better IMO.

Is this the red you're thinking about?

I agree with the guys about matched color mouldings. The black just stands out against the car color like it was something they forgot and had to add on later. Matching color trim helps blend the car's lines better IMO.

With performance red, you better go with red moldings. Nothing against black ones, because they look good on some colors, and were factroy from 87-91, but you need to go all one color.

BTW...that white notch with black moldings looks great. I actually don't like all white LX's as much as I like the white/black LX's.

LiquidGt - I'm pretty sure that's the red I'm doing. Loooks really good on yours. The white wheels matching the top is really nice.

Thanks for all the opinions. I was really leaning toward the body color. I do agree though, that black is definitely the way to go on a white car.

I went for white moldings. Old pic here. Doesn't have the ponys or new top on it. Nor does it have the body damage from the kia sportage here.

There are a few rare occasions on which I like the black molding, one being the sick white notch above, but overall (and especially on a red car) I think body color is the way to go.

here is a cabernet red hatch which looks like a decent car with a nice looking set of wheels, etc...but to me its missing something with the black molding


and here is a very basic vermillion/performance red but to me it looks nicer, partly due to the body colored molding
