heads, cam, intake, and some sort of power adder. Either something like a pullied s-trim, or turbos. Slicks/drag radials are a must. Oh yea, a big budget will help out a little too.

10's are not as easy as people who dont know about drag racing think. the difference between 14's and 13's is not a lot but the difference between 11's and 10's is. to get in the 10's your going to need suspension first. a set of drag springs, drag shocks, control arms, sub frames are a basic but effective setup. you will need a sticky tire either a slick or a good drag radial. then your going to need around 450whp minimum. some say less but im realistic. all motor will take a stroker kit (331, 347) with high compression, good set of ported heads (trick flow R, AFR 185's), ported big intake (trickflow R, Edelbrock RPM) custom cam, all bolt ons and tuning. Even then it would be hard to make that kinda of power. better to go with a 351 block with a stroker. you can go the nitrous route h/c/i, bolt ons, and a big shot to reach the power mark. a supercharger (S Trim) with a good amount of boost with a h/c/i package. or a turbo setup around 10 psi. many ways to go. but you need the power. to take the power you will need to upgrade tranny and axles as well. TKO 500, 600 and some 31/33 spline axles will do. it cost a lot of money, time, effort, and practice to get in the 10's. the sixty foot is key. my friends cobra ran a 11.1@133. some guys go 10's@127. so it take a lot of traction and good power.

that pretty much sums it up right there lol. Weight loss always helps too but I would have to agree (not from experience tough ) Nothing IMO will get u there without an awesome launch and enough power to rip you down the track. Or you can think about it this way... All I gotta to is get from here to way over there in UNDER 11 seconds lol.

than why do you need to go 10's? you cannot afford 10's right now. why not save a little up and buy either a good h/c/i or a vortech kit. and run 12's all day long? 2k is a lot better than 10k

Hmm..10.99 or better?...I say a h/c/i setup with a 150 shot may get you close or a s-trim with about 10-12lbs of boost. Add some stronger axles, subframes, and et streets. Drop about 200lbs and you're in there like swinwear.

All this could be done for $4000 if you buy a few used parts.

Oh, well in that case...I was looking at a set of Twisted Wedge heads, E303 cam, and a Cobra intake. Maybe some new rocker arms...we'll have to see.

I think 10's are out of the question with that combo. Stick to 12's as a goal.

Well, then what combo do you suggest? Also, would it be a better buy, to just go with a DSS Probullet 306 shortblock and start building up on it?

I would say it depends on the mileage and how well your current engine is running. A DSS 306 isn't really going to give you more power.

The combo you listed sounds pretty good except for the cam....I'd do a custom cam.

You could just buy the trickflow kit for $2100, it comes with heads, cam, intake and all the small parts you will need(pushrods, roller rockers, gaskets, timing chain, valve covers). This will give you 300+rwhp with supporting mods.

You'll need a blower/turbo/n20 for 10's with a 302/306

go to college to be a brain scientist. They make lots of money. Only brain scientists can run 10's.

VERY VERY wrong!

Heres a n/a 306 running 10.90's with an off the shelf AFM cam. http://www.andersonfordmotorsport.com/cars/Marnold.html

Here another car running low 11's at 10 second mph. http://www.andersonfordmotorsport.com/cars/Twinters.htm

Theres some horrific info in this thread LOL

^^^I know it can be done, I think Perky did it too.

BUT, look at the weight of the cars you posted, one is 2780lbs with driver and the other is 3045lbs. with driver(massive weight reduction). Both of these cars use 4.56 gears, stage 3 heads, and slicks. Even with these things the first car is barely in the 10's at 10.92.

When someone comes in here asking for 10's, I give them the parts it usually takes 99.7% of us to get there not a fully preped race car. Especially when the poster list these parts that he is looking at

Point well taken.

When you're taking a small cubic inch 302 engine and wanting it to run hard on motor it takes a steep gear, bigger heads and higher rev's. Fwiw 124mph is enough for 10.70's hookign hard.

Nothign wrong at all with building a decent h/c/i package and then throwing spray or a supercharger on it and having easy 10 second capability. I guess some people like doing it the hard way for more of a challenge. That in my opinion is what you call a killer street car. I MUCH prefer doing it on motor.
