What do u guys think of the 98-02 CLK's?

I'd love to pick up a CLK430, but the ones I've come across are either way overpriced (they think it's gold because it's a Benz), or they have high mileage. My old boss had an E430, which is the same powertrain in a sedan instead of a coupe. Very nice car, I got to drive him to the airport in it once. They're 300hp I believe, and they definitely move out when they're asked to. Get pretty decent mileage from what I've read, too. I think they were 99-02 though.

Seriously tho, I know nothing about the cars except that they're Mercedes which means big $$$ for any part on the car that might need replaced.

Nope. I just did a Kelley Blue Book on a 2000 with "normal" mileage (80k) and "normal" features. Came in about $13k, at Private Party price. Not too bad, except the car was over $50k, new.

yea the older ones have come down in price a lot, the car had just caught my eye. Figured i'd get some opinions on it. I have no idea how benz's are once they get to that 100K+ mark on mileage.

Benz's drop in value the first 3 yrs like the titanic...fast and hard with no regard to who is on board. I think its due to the fast change in style and big lease market they have.

The one thing that bothers me with the benz/BMW is the warranty/lack of when you need any repairs. Prices on fixes are more than alittle pricey. However, if your going to by a Benz/BMW used is gen. a better deal.

Honestly, I would look at a lease on a benz/BMW before buying one...even though it would be REALLY tempting to get a older M3 sedan or 330 (330 being after they went to 2door M3's only). IIRC I remember reading that a majortiy of the luxo non-entry level benz/BMW's are lease's.

All i have to say is, I work for chrysler and I have had to deal with the Crossfires alot which is simply a mercedes benz with crossfire badges. And the motors are rock solid, but the electrical problems they have will drive you up the ****ing wall. For that reason I hate working on them. I have on at work I just had to order a PCM for and I got a glance at the price on the mercedes PCM... $2000...... So if it has no warranty I would not buy it.... Each one has an electrical system that is a ticking time bomb waiting to go. And these crossfires I am talking about at work, have all been under 45k miles. The one i need to replace the PCM on only has 44k miles and is out of warranty. He just got lucky that thanks to the government and their extended 8/80 federal emissions warranty the PCM is covered.

Long story short, I hate Mercedes from what I see at work all the time and I would not recomend them to anyone. But thats just me.

Yea i read the electrical problems are known on those. I looked at them cause it'd be nice to have a "luxury/sport" car.....but im scared of the possibilities lol. So yea.....

anyone got any other ideas?
