A fox body parts car we have has 93 GT seats in it, and I was thinking about having them recovered in black leather or vinyl (vynil??) and putting them in my 68. They have the same stitch pattern and design, but are much more comfortable, have headrests, and would still match the back seat and the rest of the interior. It would still have that classic car aura in the interior.

Sound like a good idea?

I say go for it! I've seen this exact thing done with a few '65-'69 Mustangs, and it has always looked great. IMHO, in their original upholstery, the Fox body GT seats look kinda crappy and dated, even in leather. But in a pattern/fabric that matches the vintage feel, those seats look great and have real character. I've even seen a very nice '65 with a pony interior, and the Fox body GT seats had been upholstered to exactly copy the original pony seat trim. Looked great and made a real impression. And you're absolutely right about them being more comfortable, supportive, and safer than the original lowbacks. It was these exact points that made me decide to do the same thing applied to some modern Ford highbacks (since my Mach originally came with highbacks) rather than the GT seats.

i have 86 gt buckets in mine, they will eventually be covered to match a 69 style seat, probabaly the grande style deluxe with cloth inserts, just have to find some cloth that looks close since the grande cloth isn't made any longer

weigh the cost of buying bolt in aftermarket seats and the price its going to cost for new foam and reupholtstering of these seats. I bet it comes down pretty close!

Like the sig says 91 GT seats. Love them. Aftermarket seats that actually feel good cost way over $1200. I bought mine for $100. Getting ready to bring them to the upholstery shopthis month. For the stiching I want front and back, it will be $400 bucks. I got a couple "samples" from a wholesale coverings warehouse for $100. $600 bucks total is a steal for exactly what I want!

Note, you just have to find a car, like the one I got my parts from, that some tiny guy/gal drove. That way the seats aren't squashed flat.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY disagree!!

If you are getting some seats redone....new foam, upholstered, custom stiching front and back for $400.....You are getting a steal my friend.

I have sat in several different varieties of Corbeau seats (under $600 brand new) - and they felt GREAT!

I agree, Summit has a good looking pair as well for $200 apiece. Has lumbar and shoulder supports and has the holes for shoulder harnesses. Can't attest to the comfort yet, but I will be able to soon. Also, I had a 90 GT for 7 years, and those seats are lacking in support and comfort. If your not going on any long drives, its okay.

My reason for wanting them redone is that the stitching matches my interior, (unlike aftermarket seats) and *I* think they are comfortable. It doesn't matter to me that someone else thinks they lack support, someone else isn't driving the car, I am. I like them.

BTW, I have taken extended drives in my girlfriend's 90 GT, same seats.

seats are something that i'm confused about also at this point. i LOVE the look of the old low backs, as the look, and fit perfect in the car, BUT!! if i ever got in a serious accedent then my neck wouldn't stand a chance. plus they don't exacly hold you in place that well.

anyone got any pics of some other seats?

I have (sadly) done some import tuning. My last car was a GSR Integra with your beloved Corbeau seats ($875 for the pair). They looked cool, but did not match the color of the car. I did a lot of driving and I found myself wishing I had never sold the original seats! Mearly sitting in the seats does nothing for you. You have to drive in them, for a while, before you can tell if they are good. I also had another set of APS? I think, and they did not fit me at all, and the quality sucked! The lumbar area got soft right away.

The 91 GT seats I have are getting covered with a very nice "pleather" that will match my car, have "old" school style, and will feel great for a good long roadtrip. Yes, I am getting a great deal. Yes, I did a ton of research looking for seats, and material and a local upholstery shop. I'm just some crazy guy with an idea to save money and trying to help find an alternative to the mainstream.

Last thing, see the high leg bolsters on the Corbeau's and Scats? They get holes in them quickley because you have a tough time getting in them. Our cars are not the most "entry" friendly. Thats all I have to say about that.
