I am switching my 4 cyl to a nice big V8. I pulled a 1975 302 and c4 tranny out of a maverick, and I am having the motor being rebuilt, bored .30 over with new pistons, rings.. etc. I am also having the heads ported. < ALL cast iron. I have an edelbrock air gap intake manifold, a holley 650 cfm carb, honey comb air cleaner sticking throught the hood. I have a high volume oil pump, a high volume water pump, a high tourque starter to clear a set of flowtech headers I have, from the headers I am running 2 1/2 in glasspacks flipped backwards with the pipes coming out of the sides.. I am using the stock dist. with "high performance parts" I have accel wires and NGK plugs... That is about the basics there, I just want to know if anyone else has a set up like this or if I really am going to have a mustang like no other... Thanks. :hail2:

Note: this is going into a 92 convert, and i forgot to mention that the c4 is being rebuilt with a shift kit with lighter check balls and the whole 10 yards.. they quoted me 370 horsepower... beats the 110 horsepower the 4 cyl puts out...

sounds like you got all your stuff together. i would go with dynomax race bullets instead of the glass packs. its basically the same thing, but i think they sound better. also, why dont you just get a cowl hood so you dont have the air cleaner sticking through the hood. thats what i would do....but its your car and if thats what you like than go for it and tear up the roads with it

This combo is going to depend on a couple key items that you didnt touch much on...You mentioned the ported heads, and that's one of the 2, so if they're ported reeeally good that's going to help. The second thing, also very important that you didnt mention, is the cam.

I'll second that comment about the glass packs....only mudder trucks have glass packs. Your car will sound like ass and they're not going to show any power increases over any typical aftermarket muffler. Also, are the headers full length or shorties? On a side note, those Flowtechs are probably black if i'm guessing right? If so, be ready for some peeling paint.

Everything else sounds nice. I'm getting that same intake, but i'm probably stepping up to a 675 Demon or 700 Demon carb. Remember that all the motor in the world will never show it's true potential without some suspension mods...

Well, the shop that is rebuilding my motor is has been part of my family for many generations. I basically told him everything I wanted to do, and he is taking it from there, and he races for a living so i am taking his word for it...

As for the cam, I wanted a radical one, so my idle was nice and rough, yet full of muscle...

As for the glasspacks, when flipped backwards i think they sound pretty good on a big v8, and what exactly are race bullets??? Thanks to all of you for your help and comments...

I ran the bullets on my old combo and they sounded great. No need to go to a big cam with ported stock heads. Its a horrible mismatch, but if you do make sure you got monster valvesprings. What kind of compression are you going to have and what heads are you using. 370 seems a bit high for these parts.
