What do you guys think of this anti-theft device (Revelco)? Their link is below:

www.stealthegirl.com

It says "your car is completely inoperable without the custom plug tucked safely in your pocket. 100% theft protection"

I was thinking of getting a Lojack just recently, but it costs $799. The Ravelco device says that Lojack is only effective when your car is stolen but their technology prevents the car from being stolen in the first place.

What do you guys think?

I also see the ad on "Car and Driver: 50th Anniversary" issue. It says "Over 3.5 million installed, and never defeated."

This is nothing more than a glorified kill switch; something already included in most aftermarket alarms. It will be effective against amateurs and "joy riders", but not against pros. Nor will it stop anyone who uses a tow truck or flatbed to steal your car. And it provides no defense against a break in.

You could accopmplish the same thing for far less $$$ by simply removing 2 or 3 strategic fuses and taking them with you. Most car thieves don't think to carry spare fuses, nor anticipate than some would be missing.

Thiefs want the car? All they do is flatbed the car and take it to a garage where they can r&r or defeat any anti-thieft devices.

Lojack is the best bet if you want to get that car back.

that makes the most sense the plug cost an arm and leg im sure.

More effective and with a proven track record are the systems that include an RFID transponder (kinda like a Mobil Speedpass) so that your car just won't start if the transponder isn't within a certain distance of the car.

Lojack is only in certain regions. Viper has a GPS/Cellular Tracking System that will tell you a bunch of info about your car. For more information, go to http://www.viper.com/security/viper/gps.asp. Here's a comparison chart:

Ravelco says that Lojack is effective when your car is stolen and if recovered, it gets reported to Carfax and significantly reduces the resale value of the car. They said that Ravelco's system just prevents the car from being moved in the first place. I was about to get Lojack myself, though $800 is steep in the pocket.

There was also an article in there about how to prevent tow trucks from stealing the car when using the Ravelco. I believe it was on their FAQ's page or somewhere in there.

I was reading that if the thief/someone cuts off the GPS antenna, the service is rendered useless, is that true? Where is the GPS antenna located?

Completlyt true, I run an auto dealership and we install such items. ( No names please) A GPS is rendered useless if conection to antenna is cut or if it is in an obstructed view location, i.e., warehouse, garage, or any location that prohibits the satelitte from making communication with the antenna. Although, it will give the last know cordinates of the vehicle, but by that time it may already be parted out.

Good luck with your decision. :flag:

my car was stolen by tow truck theft! So it happens. And lojack is good depending on where you live, its been proven that you can take a lojack equipped car underground(parking garage) or in a thick concrete structure to kill the ability to track the signal.

This is a quote from the ravelco webpage, what do you think of this?

"WHAT HAPPENS IF A TOW TRUCK TRIES TO STEAL MY VEHICLE?
If you follow these 2 simple steps when you leave your vehicle, they can't:

1.) When you park your car, turn your wheels all the way to the left or right. 2.) Remove the Ravelco plug.

In the event a tow truck tries to steal your vehicle, the angle of the wheels will make your vehicle track in a big circle. This attracts attention . . . and no tow truck driver wants to tow a vehicle that is traveling alongside the truck, two lanes away."

tow trucks can pull up, run the fork attachment under your car, lift the front and GO. this can be done in under 30 seconds......It's the method of choice for Repo men. All your turned wheels will be doing is floating in the air.

THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO IF A PRO WANTS TO STEAL YOUR CAR!!!!!!!
