what does it cost to get a set of heads installed??

I have no idea of what the normal time is for a mechanic, but from my own experience...

1.5-2 hours to remove all accesories/intake/old heads
1.5-2 hours to reinstall all parts (sometimes this takes longer since you're installing new parts)
.5-1 hour to set up RR

Apply that to normal shop rates of $50-80/hr and you have a decent guess at labor. Don't forget all new gaskets for the intake and heads...another $60

All told, maybe $400

If $750 is a good price to install head and intake, you can pay me 500 and ill do for yah  You guys are crazy, buy a book, read up, and do it yourself! that 750 could get alot of nice stuff for you stang..

Holy Cow! You're fast! Between running to get the gaskets and doing misscellaneous stuff and taking a break to eat, it ended up taking me probably 12-14 hours. I did have to retap my head and do some other little stuff but still, i've done this before. I wasn't in a hurry for the most part. Was your gasket scraping included in those times?

Man.. it's nice to know that I save that much money by doing it myself. It was a lot of fun doing it too, and being a broke teenager I wasn't about to pay someone else to work on my car. TheUser, scraping all the gasket crap off the engine did take a reeeeeally long time. I had to reinstall the water pump 5 times because mine woudln't seal.

ok beleve it or not thats less then i thought it would cost, what about a cam install? how do they even get the angel to get it in or out of the block with out pulling it? how much would this cost to have done?

If you add in travel time to get parts and lunch it'll take longer. Add in beer time and it REALLY adds in some time.

I suppose I've done it a few times as well. I have a stripped LX that we can redo head gaskets in about 2 hours total, but there are no accessories or emmissions.

Organization and planning are the key to getting it done quickly from my experience.

You remove the rad and all other stuff that is in the way and there is a puller you use.....like a steering wheel puller. Shop labour is crazy but then you have someone to blame if it has problems. Learning to do all but the major stuff is a good idea.....then you spend all that saved money on better parts. Check www.mustangandfords.com. The tech info is fantastic.

LOL,,I know,I know,,,doing it yourself is half the fun of being a 5.0 owner. But Im 6'7 with 2 herniated discs in my lower back. 8 hours being hunched over a low Mustang would put me in bed for 2 days :notnice: Pulling the motor and tranny out is easier for me!!! But long jobs like that just cause me alot of pain,it s@cks!!!
