Looking at the motor from the front of the car, the very bottom left pulley (stock everything) Would I be correct in saying this is the smog pump???

Well, the reason I ask is because the thing seized and ruined my belt and If its smog, im not gonna get another one, i'll just delete the smog all together - I really hope its the smog....

THANKS
PauL Perreca

If I delete the smog, how do i figure out what size belt to get (w/ a/c) when I put hte new motor back together w/o the smog pump????

Get a measuring tape and wrap it around the pullies in the manner the belt would go. This will give you the length of the belt you need in inches. Just tell the clerk the inches you need. I believe its a 6 rib belt.

Yes, its the smog you are looking at. Take it off and throw it away.

Do you just unbolt the somg piece and pitch it or are there other things you have to take out as well?

Here is a good site with instructions on what to do. Keep in mind if you state has inspections, you most likely will not pass with the emissions components (smog pump) gone.

So how much of a gain in horsepower would you gain by just deleting it off the pulley system, but leaving it there to put the old belt on during emissions?

Last time I replaced my smog pump I seem to remember that it didn't cost all that much $$$. You hp gains are going to be very small compared to having a car that will not pass inspection. That may not matter to you now but one day you may decide to sell this car and the next buyer will be limited to someone like minded to yourself.

Not much, but if you start adding all the little "free" things together you may see a decent gain.

As to your 2nd question, I am not sure. I have heard different things. But I have never had to pass emissions.

Yes they are in inches. I updated the diagrams myself. Although I got the diagrams off a site somewhere (they were just to cheesy for me), so don't kill me if something is wrong. But I have seen the same lengths mentioned numerous times so I assume they are all correct. I use the 84.5 with stock pulleys to bypass the a/c (which has been chunked) and I run a Smog delete pulley.

There is one type-o..I am gonna fix now. The last pic has the wrong wording. It should say: 70.5 belt length, bypass smog pump and power steering, with underdrive pulleys.

I fixed the type-o and removed the diagrams and posted the updated one in its place in my original post.
