Alright so after watching my video and having others do so, I have decided this cam sounds nothing like a stocker. The sad part is its a stock cam, with 1.7 rockers, nothing special at all. The car as you can see at the end is idleing where it should be. I wonder why the car sounds like it has a decent cam in it? Does anyone else with a stocker have it this noticable?

My car sounded like that once when it had the stock cam in it. It was when it was still speed density and I had the map sensor unplugged, so it was dumping tons of fuel into it.

Here it is now with a TFS1 in it.

Wow, that idle really changed up once the rpms stepped back down from you revving it. I've heard some that had a very light cammed sound(cars w/ exhaust setups that were so loud you could hear any little variation in sound), but not one as pronounced sounding as yours.

Sounds like a E cam or crane 2031 I believe it is, sounds nice. What do you plan on doing about the lifters?

Hmm maybe Im just not used to having a running Mustang, lol. The lifters are staying like that for now. The motor pulls hard and makes more power then the other one, and I am NOT doing another motor swap to throw a weak worn out stock bottem end in it again. I think Ill start building something up this summer, I have been running this combo for a few years now!

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak or something. I've also seen mustangs that idle like they have a cam and then it goes away after a 3g alternator swap. I'm guessing that was because the stock one was barely putting out enough power with the underdrive pullies to keep the computer happy or something.

i think your timing is off. check that, for the longest time at every meet people would come up and be like god damn what kind of cam do you have in that thing?! I knew it was a stock cam, and didnt mind the lope i thought my car was just "special" Come to find out my timing was 7 degrees, bumped to 12-13 and started using better gas and the car sounds a lot healthier idles like it should and pulls stronger

Yeah I havent checked timing or anything like that, just got it running and moving so I can bring it to and from paint. I am pretty sure I buttoned up any possible vac leaks, but will definately check it again. It doesnt worry me, just annoys me that it sounds cammed and isnt!

sounds like a stocker, some cars have a good cammy sound though with the stocker. from the factory the cams varied greatly. yours may be one of the more agressive cams to leave the factory

They varied greatly???? I don't think they changed more than a few .001" of lift from year to year, and I couldn't see production tolerances causing more than a few thou difference either.

no i have neither yet! dyno soon enough! you can see numbers on the car from when i took it to the track, but it ended up raining the night we went and i never had a chance to get back. It was a fun ride home in the pouring rain and MT slicks

I wish it did have something other than a stocker... might actually run faster. If I find out why it idles like this I will definately fix it. As bad as this sounds, I dont want it to stumble at idle, I like the stock sounding cam, unless Im making more power with a custom grind!
