Just went to the track yesterday and despite the 2.79 pegleg axle and 6 inch wide tires holding me back, I ran a 13.66 at 104.5 mph. the 60 ft was 2.36. with a proper axle and sticky tread, what should that mph be good for? If anyone has a similar mph on a 66 please post. I have no additional weight in the car (like power accessories) and aluminum heads and fiberglass hood and valence, so I figure my weight is probably somewhere around 3000-3100 pounds, but the Et doesn't coincide with the mph. what ET should I shoot for after the axle swap for next year?

The 104mph speaks volume's...you have waayy more et left in her. My 65 w/ a 3.80 trak loc runs 13.80's at 101 w/ a 2.2 60 ft... You for sure have 12 sec mph, the key is getting that 60 ft time down... I've seen guys running in the 12's w/ 100 mph even but really good 60 ft times 1.6-1.8.. That's the hardest part to me in dragging racing now is getting a good 60 ft time, they make or break your run.. Considernig you have a 2.79 gear that's pretty good i think but you have lots of room for improvement w/ that mph w/ a gear swap and sticky tires...

Congrats on getting into the mid 13's on those skinny tires and freeway gears!

Now throw some gear in there and some slicks or drag radials and run some high12's. It's not that easy because you will most likely have to play with shocks, springs, traction bars, and frame connectors. But you are making enough power to run the number.

Nice vid ttop88...

I agree, you me and ga289stocker all have very similar set ups minus some variables and him and I have run similar times, and you by far have a lot left in that MPH so get some slicks or radials with a higher gear and you will be really kickin our asses haha

My 65 with driver and 6point rb was at 3050. BUT, that was with my heavy 6-71 blower also, so its probably 3000 now I'd guess.

wow, so it has alot more left in it. I am picking up an 95-up explorer axle tomorrow:
31 spline axles
5 lug
disc brakes
trac lok
3.73 gears
same pinion depth as an 8" so no new driveshaft needed

I just need to shorten the LH axle and put in another Rh axle in it and its approximately the same axle length as the 65-66 mustang. It'll be done for this winter. everyone is going to be scratching their heads if it runs 12.99 with STOCK TIRES. ha ha ha!

Oh yes, does anyone know where I can find stock-type axles for the explorer rear? I can get a yukon axle on eSteal for $120 shipped, but I would like replacement ones which I think would be more than strong enough, considering they are 31 spline to start out with

What do you mean "stock type" axles? You either have to use the 8.8 style axles with the 8.8 or have 9" axle ends welded on and use 9" style axles with press-on bearings.

Mid to high 12s. Your current time and speed looks funny because your takeoff is slow. The E.T speaks more for how well you left the line while MPH shows how much power you're putting down. A slow ET with a high MPH shows good power with poor traction which is exactly what you have.

As an example, I shot video at the drags of a turbocharged Fox3 GT on late '90s GT 17" wheels. The takeoff was slow and it spun ALL the way down the track. The ET was a 12.21 which is 400bhp territory, but the speed was 121mph. Traction for twelves, power for tens.

by stock type, i mean stock replacement. when i narrow the rear axle, i narrow the LH side, then use another RH side axleshaft in the LH side to narrow it without expensive custom axles.
