what flex plate do i need? 157 or 164

well i was about to bolt this new flex plate up and i counted the teeth b4 i did and i counted 164. i think i am suposed to have 157. 1989 302 block bolting on a C4. the flex plate also says "AOD" on it. i bough it from the parts store and told them i have a 5.0 with an auto. does it matter what tooth? help me out

If you've got an AOD, you need a 164 tooth. Only the C-4's used 157's and then only the ones with the correct 157 tooth bell. Some C-4's also used 164's and the Stang II unit used a 147 tooth.

well im going with a C4 so i need a 157 huh. dang it. i bought this 164 a long time ago too.

Like I said before, a C-4 can use either, depends on what bellhousing it's got.

well i dont have the C4 yet and i plan on getting one from TCI. so with that said are you saying i can use either bellhousing with a TCI tranny? and does a bigger bellhousing mean tighter fit under my car? what are most of you guys running the large or small?

I just went through this! Stock C4, Small Bellhousing, 157 tooth.
