I am getting ready to swap out my clutch. I am thinking about a synthetic Dexron II/Mercon or syntehtic B&M. What is everyone else having good luck with?

Since my car is all stock (w/ 108K miles) I have been running regular ATF from Valvoline

Edit: That was before my dad got a hold of my car and blew my poor T-5 into pieces

I think you'll be very happy with GM SynchroMesh. It's what is recommended by Tremec for the TKO-500 & 600 and works really well for smoothing out shifting.

We're talking transmission, not engine.

I know. I changed mine to the Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. I've heard where high mileage motors could leak when switched to synthetic so I assume trannys may too.

the dynamics are much different in the trans, and the trans is much smaller than a motor. ATF (even conventional) has a lot of detergent in it, which means there is little sludge issues inside the trans like there can be inside a motor.

I have always used regular ATF for Borg Warner T-5's and GM Syncromesh for Tremec specific tranny's.

After reading good things on this forum about Redline D4, I tried to find some locally today....no luck.

Are there any other fluids anyone has tried that they think are comparable? Maybe just any synthetic ATF?

Nothing at the moment -- mine is sitting on my garage floor.

When it goes in my car -- I will probbaly try Amsoil since I have some laying around.

Well this has sparked some interesting information. Seems most 5.0 Stangers run some kind of synthetic ATF in their T5.

Bob, unless you live in the sticks, someone should sell some Redline. you can call them and they will tell you who the authorized dealers are.

I am not one to stray from what is recommended, so any synthetic that meets the oem recommendations for Dexron/Mercon should work fine. You can see that people run all sorts of funny stuff and they say it works fine.

good luck.

Adam, is the auto going bye-bye?
