What gears for 2004 GT Auto?

hey i have a 2004 GT auto and i want to put gears in which should i put 3.73 or 4.10 i need to be able to drive on the highway and city.

Auto's are different then 5spds. If you had A 5sp I would say 3.73 but since you have an auto 4.10's are a must, you won't notice a difference with 3.73. Also I looked at the box the 3.73 were in and it said not intended for use on Auto's. Make sure you get a programmer since the Auto relys on the computer to tell it to shift, the new gears will screw the computer all up, also you can program the shift points at WOT and shift firmness. A friend of mine has 4.10's with the programmer and his tires chirp going into second gear.

No less than 4.10's for an auto. Anything less will leave you disappointed.

How are 4.10's in an auto for Highway driving? I'm thinking of going the same, but don't want my gas mileage killed a ton. I have heard 4.10's really don't noticeably affect your gas mileage unless you do alot of Highway.

The biggest thing that will affect your gas milage after gears is your foot. If you don't change driving habits, I've heard of some people actually getting an increase in milage during city driving, while only a nominal decrease during freeway driving. This is also very dependant upon the gears you choose.

4.10s. I would not want 4.30s. Third would run out way too soon.

I've had 4.10's in my old GT....They don't do any good at all if you don't have a stall converter. Trust me on this. I ran my car before and after the gears were in, and it actually went from a 9.00 to a 9.1 in the 1/8th. Don't get 4.10's unless you're getting a stall with an automatic.

no more than 3:27 or you will run out of gear on the top end. j/k 4:10 all the way

HONESTLY, i would NOT do gears, or if so do them last on an Automatic car. Wasn't really a fan of the gears in my last 98GT (auto). I really didn't feel a difference in the gear swap (and i went from 3.27 stock to 4.10 by the way). The only time i ever noticed a difference would be when i launched with someone else, and i would take off right away. And it was helpful on the highway.

HOWEVER, in an automatic, you only have 4 gears, not 5 (like a 5spd) and it knocks your top end off a LOT with 4.10s!! My top end went down to like 115ish...and that was at like 5-6grand RPM. I can't EXACTLY tell because i never speed-cal'd. But anyway. In an auto, i really would do a gear swap. I was not a fan of loosing all the top end and my speedo was all F'd up and i really didn't feel much of a difference my .02 cents.

If it were a 5spd, 4.10s but i think i honestly might go 3.73 with this new 02GT. I want to make it great on the highway, and i dont think 4.10s are for me with this new car.

Hey man, pass that ***** over here. Wow, now I can see what you were saying. Wait, no that was the smoke in my eyes. WTF do you mean there was no difference between 4.10s and 3.27s? 115 top end? are you serious?

With a 5 speed my top end at 6000 rpm is somewhere around 165 mph

yeah dont listen to that guy up there.. 4th gear in the auto is the same ratio as 5th in the 5 speed.. go 410s and have some fun yo..
