I am trying to sand down a bezel, it came off of my wideband. I picked up some 40 grit sandpaper from autozone. Will this be sufficient enough to remove the grey paint off of it (providing that i wet sand) and then primer it... let it dry.. then paint it the a chrome color?

40 grit is rough, maybe too rough for what your trying to do. I usually
use 220 wet/dry paper with a mild soap and water solution to wet sand
