I've got a 93 coupe thats rather stock. I'm looking for some GOOD heads and a cam . . . eventually the transmission will be replaced or upgraded; and hopefully the pony might get a turbo or two. In the end i would like the car to make around 400-500hp *assuming I have the turbo. Any suggestions would help. Gracius amigos.

anything really.

A stock motor with a turbo makes over 400rwhp . . . so it just depends on how much more you want.

my car makes 505rwhp and 559rwtq with ported e7s and a f-cam but thats with 15lbs and a 62mm holset . . .

thats a pretty easy goal, any decent cylinder head and a turbo is gonna get you to 400 whp

A while back i saw a set of gt40x heads brand new for like 900 bucks, those will work.

AFR 165's are also a good choice and will work well with or without boost.

Trick flow has a new fast as cast head that looks pretty good also, and their CNC twisted wedge heads are awesome.

Just plan it out and lay your goals on the table before you buy anything, cause most guys say they want 500 HP, but when they have it they want 700, and things get expensive buying parts twice

You're going to have to be very careful with the tune because your '93 doesn't have forged pistons, so it's not going to be very forgiving. You could EASILY make more power than the block can handle with stock E7s and a turbo, but a good flowing set of heads would be smart so you can make the same power at safer boost levels for your cast pistons. Oh, and F cam, F cam, F cam. Can't stress it enough.

Buy the best heads that you can afford, they can then transfer over to new engine later, and get a custom grind cam that can also transfer over to a new motor. Because lets face it.........with a stock block it is just a matter of time.

What size heads would serve best, 165cc, 185cc, or 225cc?? The car is to be driven on the street im guessing the 225cc would be a bit overkill?? and now that I know that tid bit of information ^ the motor will most likely get some forged pistions as well. Thanks for the help so far

same as above if thats your goal, slap a turbo on there as is and let it fly, you'll get 400 out of it.

For a turbo 302, go with AFR165s, or TFS TWs. Get an appropriate intake. A GT40, Performer, or RFI intake will do nicely. There are plenty of other intakes that would work well, too. However, try to focus on those that keep your powerband to below 6000 rpm. Focusing the entire combo on the same mid-range rpm band will really pay off by spooling the turbo/s quickly and making an amazing street car. The Ford F-cam like others above have mentioned has worked in countless boosted 5.0s and has even been in some high-dollar turbo apps making 1000+ rwhp, though I always err on the side of custom cams. The only real change to pay attention to is keeping the compression reasonable. Don't bump it up by needlessly milling the heads. Lower compression allows you to run more boost without increasing the risk of detonation. Other than that and an optimized cam, select the parts the same way you would if your motor was still n/a.

Others here have posted some pretty good advice in here. If you're planning to build a motor later on, then begin now and buy the parts that will work with it. There's nothing less efficient than having to sell stuff for old combos at discounted prices to buy stuff for new combos. However, I personally always try to go one of two ways in modifying cars: every part is cheap and easily replaceable, or every part is perfect and will take a hell of a lot of abuse.

Keep in mind that a maxed out 60mm or larger turbo will give a stock block all the air/power it needs to part like the red sea. At 15 psi on a block with stock heads, cam, intake, you probably won't quite get to 400 rwhp, but modifying any of these parts will put you soundly over that mark.

A word to the wise: Do not attempt to play the turbo game if you cannot control your urge to go faster, unless you have enough money to satisfy it. With the right sized turbo, getting more power is as easy as turning up the boost, and if you're like me you will keep upping the boost until something bad happens.

Good luck.

Chris
