What hp does stock GTs dyno at w/ the 4R70W

Yea I always wondered about a different Torque Converter??? I hear all it really does is allow you to get your stall up higher from a stop! So If I try to power brake it will alow me to go up to my stall speed?? Does it do anything else???

below the stall speed it feels like there is just no power the car tends to feel slugish, but once it get there its nice and it can knock off like .3 on your1/4. But people debate on wether to get a triple plate or single plate TC...

Nope. Thats stupid.. its math... of course its true in reverse! Hp and torque are directly proportional at any given rpm. You know tq and rpm, you know power. You know power and rpm, you know torque.

Nope, Torque is not a force. A force would be measured in Newtons or lbs. Foot x lbs, or N x m, is a measure of Work (energy).
Rate of work (I.e. times it by the rev rate) is power.

Its pretty damn simple but so many people are confused by hp and tq:

Torque in physics terms is a measure of rotational force, not work. Power would be what hp is. And hp and tq are not directly porportional at any given RPM. After 5250 RPM's, they are indirectly porportional.

Proof:

The concept of torque in physics originated with the work of Archimedes on levers. Informally, torque can be thought of as "rotational force". The weight that rests on a lever, multiplied by its distance from the lever's fulcrum, is the torque. For example, a weight of three newtons resting two metres from the fulcrum exerts the same torque as one newton resting six metres from the fulcrum. This assumes the force is in a direction at right angles to a straight lever. More generally, one may define torque as the cross product:



where r is the vector from the axis of rotation to the point on which the force is acting, and F is the vector of force. Torque is important in the design of machines such as engines.

Torque has dimensions of distance ׊force; the same as energy. However, the units of torque are usually stated as "newton metres" or "foot pounds" rather than joules. Of course this is not simply a coincidence - a torque of 1 Nm applied through a full revolution will require an energy of exactly 2π J ? mathematically, E = τ θ, where E is the energy and θ is the angle moved, in radians.

That being said, read on:

Hp is a measure of power. Power = work/time. And if work = Force * distance , we can substitute the equation for work into the equation for power and get:

Power = (Force * distance) / time.

This looks an awful lot like the equation for hp:

HP = {[Torque (Force) * Revolutions (distance)] / Minute (time)} / 5250 (Unit conversion factor).

Cliff Notes:
Horsepower is a measure of power. It is a measure of work done over a certain amount on time.
Torque is a measure of instantanious force at any given time.

My 03 GT Auto., dynoed at 237rwhp and 280rwtq. Only thing done was MAC Prochamber and MAC Catback. Running on 87 gas and it was a decently hot day. Shop owner said they were the highest he had seen on a basically stock Auto.

So would you suggest a lower stall for street driven cars? more like 2500-2800 stall rather then 3200 or above.

well the one im getting is a 2800 stall with a triple plate... one of the reasons they get them around there is because it put the car right near its power band, and would get a better harder take off alot of people have them on DD stangs with a 2800-3200 stall.

Which one is power and which one is force is pretty irrevelavant for most comparisions. But people need to know that horsepower and torque vary with each other.

yeah torque times horsepower equals 1/4 time divided by the perpendicular-ness of the equal lateral of the planetary components orbitary gear ration of 3.87:1. so what do you guys think my rwhp would be at with my mods in sig plus a diablosport tune? and maybe my 1/4 time?

you will have to get a dyno and run your car at the track to find out cause we can only make estimates and caculations that can be close to or completely off but i would say you'll hit 13's and as far as power goes anywhere form 230-245HP you should consider getting a mid pipe

You've got your units all mixed up. A lbf applied on a moment arm of one foot produces a torque of 1 ft-lbf. When your clicker torque wrench goes "click" and the but stops turning, you are still applying a torque to that nut. And if it's not turning, there's no work being done. If you stand on a lug wrench but can't break those rusty lug nuts free, you're still applying a torque to the nut even though you're doing no work on the nut. Torque can be present with no work being done and no power being produced.

Work implies that a mass is being moved through a distance. Power is measure of the rate at which work is done. A torque applied to a moment arm provides the "force" and RPM gives the "distance." The rate at which an engine can produce torque defines its power output. Work != energy. Energy is nothing more than a potential to do work. A one-farad stereo stiffening capacitor may be charged with significant charge, storing lots of energy, but until its released into the low-impedance power amp, it's nothing but potential.

Right. The derivation of this equation goes back to James Watt's original observation that an average horse could haul 550 lbs of coal up a mineshaft one foot in one second, giving us the basis for the "horsepower." 550 lbs, one foot in one second is equivalent to 33,000 pounds one foot in one minute. 33,000/2*PI (2*PI radians defines a full revolution) gives the constant 5252.1131. Notice the units: ft-lbs/min.

Reciprocating engines are rotary machines that produce torque at their output shaft. Of course they're producing power any time that shaft is turning but fundamentally it's their torque output is measured on an engine dyno and converted to HP using that equation or something close to it with corrections.

wow...i feel alot better about my 190 hp and 230tq now that i see PI 4R70W's are only making that much.

everyone seems to go with P.I triple disc converters i believe they are about
$500-800 i dont know exactly

I don't think I have seen PIs make that low even on mustang dynos.
