Im pretty much positive that I did NOT put the race onto my new steel bearing retainer. what problems might this cause? not being able to go into certain gears? bad clutch engagement? clanging noises? any help is very much appreciated.

For 1 it's going to sound like a coffee can full of marbles being shaken up ANY time the trans is turning at all...i.e. your car running.
Not to mention, oh I dunno, ball bearings just slapping around under the retainer...pretty sure that's not going to last.

Make sure when you pull it back out, you also properly shim the retainer.

It sure does sound like something being shaken up. maybe more like sand?
Also, not to worry. I drove the car 2 miles to work, and 2 miles back, only because I had to. Then I got home and put it on jack stands. Been there for about a week now. Gonna pull the trans next week for Spring Break. Yay!

Also, there isn't too big a chance that the caged roller bearing came apart and all those pins are all over the inside of the transmission now, right? Well, I guess I'll find out when I pull it out.
