What is Clutch Chirping?

Everyone talks about how there clutch starts to chirp or chatter after a while. Is this a really noticeable thing or is it loud? Does it only do it when shifting gears or is it with the clutch in?

The reason I am asking is I really need a clutch pretty bad and there is a Ram Heavy Duty one for 164.99 on ebay. Now I saw that if you get the ram power grip it is 259.99 and it is made of Kevlar.... I know kevlar doesn't chatter. But is this a good clutch? If it is going to be a problem then I will forget about it, but it is cheaper then the King Cobra and I know they chatter and crap.

come on guys... I really need a clutch, and I don't want a crappy one. I have searched and everyone says that it is a good clutch, but I don't know if they mean the one that has the Kevlar or this Heavy Duty one. Anybody?

chirping is generally known to be the throw out bearing NOT the actual clutch. and sorry but where did you hear that kevlar clutches dont chatter????? i ran one years ago and it was horrible. I recommend a Spec Stage1 for your level of modifications, maybe a stage2

I run a spec III which has a carbon/kevlar friction material. They use these materials for grip, not to prevent noises or vibrations. Spec's are natorious for chatter. This all has to do with the breakin prossess. I did a lot of soft shifting when I did my break in period of about 400-500miles. It was a really difficult clutch to break in becuase it had a mind of it's own, and still does to a point. Mine doesn't chatter at all.

"Chatter" occurs when you are releasing the clutch to get rolling along. A chattering clutch will "shake" the car upon engaging and is definitely noticeable.

It's not always best to buy the least or most expensive. Some people will have great luck with certain clutches while others won't ... luck of the draw if you will. Best bet is to go with a Centerforce. Almost everyone that buys one is completely satisfied aside from the additional expense, if the extra $150 is too much, you can always have the option of having to do the clutch twice if you prefer ...

my throwout bearing is making a squeeking noise... When I press in on the clutch it goes away. Is that what you guys are talking about. So, it depends on the breakin and all? Do you think the Ram Heavy Duty will work?

yes thats the throwout bearing chirping, and said it once ill say again, i recommend Spec stage1 or stage2

but I thought the Spec's are bad on tranny's.... i would love to get one, they are sweet clutches, but I would rather have my tranny.

thats a myth, BAD DRIVERS are what kills transmissions.

its a fact bad drivers DO kill transmissions, im running a Spec Stage3 with 500+rwhp and my Tremec 3550 is as healthy as when new, two other friends are running stock T5's with Spec stage2 clutches also with NO problems

In that case, bad drivers are the one's running the good times.

Spec clutches grab hard, this shocks the trans and on a weak tranny it will definatly shorten it's life. I would go with a stock style clutch on a T-5.

Ram clutches work good in a car with about 300rwhp or less and approx. 3000lbs or less with a factory or Z spec T-5. As the weight of the car increases the engine output must decrease for a mild street clutch to work adequately.

TOB squeeking .... is your clutch pedal/cable adjusted properly?? It should be adjusted so as to give some preload ...

Is your factory aluminum input bearing retainer (what the tob rides on) chewed a bit??
