What is my Mustang worth?

I inherited a 1964 1/2 Mustang from my Mom (original owner). It has about 75k miles and no rust. It was in Colo. for the last 39 years. It is in good driver car shape on the mechanics. The only issues are it needs a new windshield (scratched), a complete paint job, and the rear bumper and panel were dented by being backed into a tree at 5 mph. The shifter was replaced by a Hurst but I have the old one. I want to get her looking beautiful but it would help to know the present value and the spiffed-up value for this car. Any opinions/advise will be welcomed.

The motor is a 6 cyl. It is a convertible, red w/ black vinyl interior, am radio, tonneau cover, original spinner hubcaps, and a 3-speed. The VIN # is 5R08U100582.

Id say $6500 if it is in the condition you described

www.nadaguides.com shows the current value around $7400 and after new paint, bumper, and dent fixing between $15,700 and $27600. Not sure where they are getting their sales comparisons.

I purchased a 65 fastback for just over $10,000 and nada claims it is worth around $24,000. Go figure.

go to www.autotrader.com and search for similar Mustangs in your area; knock about $1000 of the asking price and that should give you a good idea of your car's market value.

Damn, why don't I ever inherit cool stuff? So far I've only inherited a bad temper and excessive body hair.

Depending on where you live....that vehicle would go from between 3500-6500.

The convertible option is about the only thing that saves a little bit of value on that car. Sounds like it needs some work.

Sweet....

1. An appraisal will probably needed for insurance regardless.

2. Whatever it comes in at do not consider selling it - you WILL regret it if you do because it's your Mom's car, original owner, and a convertible to boot. Keep care of it!!

Man, I wish I could find a vert in my area for that price. ragtops pull serious $$$ here. A guy in my neighborhood has a total rustbucket 67 vert he said he was thinking about selling for $10K, and I'm sure he'll get it no problem.

Yeah, these are some pretty lowball numbers being thrown around here, especially considering that it's an all-original 64 1/2 convertible, and an early one at that. Of course, in my opinion, about 50% of the value depends on the integrity of the undercarriage.

I agree on the undercarriage value part. I walked away from a 68 w/all GT option, asking price 6K, because the frame rails and floor panels were a nightmare...as I'm walking away, the guy is practically begging me to take it for $3K. Kept on ; bought my 67 the next week.
