I have a dilemma. I put a used 5.0 and T-5 into my car. I drove it easy for a couple days and all was well. But the Oil Press would start out about 60 PSI. The last engine, which was a low mileage racing motor was pretty steady @ about 39-45 PSI. This one starts @ 60 and when it's all heated up drops down to as low as 25 @ idle. So I finally "get on er" and within a mile I implode the Throw out bearing. I spent a week changing out the tranny, get it back on the road and it's got the telltale blue smoke coming aout the tailpipe. Not a lot, but it doesn't ever go away completelly, and when I stomp on it it's pretty bad for the folks behind me. Are these related? Could I have just blown out a valve stem seal or are we talking rings? Any advice would be appreciated because I'm gonna start tearing into it tonight. Sorry for the long thread.
Matt.

In my experience valve stem seals usually smoke on start up but it clears up after that. I would run a compression check at minimum and if you can a leak down test as well. Then you can have a good idea of where the problem actually lies instead of guess and possibly throwing parts at it, which can be a very expensive proposition.

And I usually like to see a minimum of 10 psi of OP for each 1000 rpm. At idle I would still like to see at least 25 but after that at least 10 psi for each 1000 rpm.

So if I have 62 PSI @ idle, then I have a problem? I have changed the oil twice and the filter once since I installed the engine.

Your oil pressure will drop after the car warms up. Mine goes from 55 down to 23 at idle after warming up.

That is the general rule of thumb that I always hear. My oil pressure is around 25psi when it warms up, and about 55psi at the most when I get on it. I worry that mine is to low too.

I seem to remember hearing that Ford specs a mimum hot oil pressure of 10psi....or some rediculous number. Maybe try running a thicker oil if you are concerned with you oil pressure. 25psi at hot idle seems perfectly fine to me. I run about 30-33 at hot idle and about 55-60 at WOT high rpm. Im assuming you have a good gauge.

Is this cold idle or hot idle. My cold idle OP is around 50-55 psi when it warms up it drops down to around 30 psi.

My Haynes manual says 40 to 60 psi at 2000RPM with engine hot for the 94-95 5.0L. No spec at idle is listed.

Mine has about 55-60psi when cold and about 35-38psi when hot at idle. My engine has about 200k miles on it.
