What is this stuff, where to get it?

I de-skinned my trunk lid this weekend and discovered that there is some kind of glue/adhesive between the skin and the support structure. Anybody know what this stuff is called and where to get some of it? Obviously I'll need to put some back on here when I put the trunk lid skin back on.

Here are some pics for your entertainment. This is a 69' Mach1, here's the trunk lid off of the car

This is the inside of the outer skin once it was removed. I was able to see alot this rust through the holes in the support structure, and thats why I de-skinned it. You can see the glue pads on the skin, they released from the support structure with a little heat. I'd like to know where to get this stuff to replace it.

basically that is structural adhesive... your local paint and body supply house carries it. try to get the non sag type, otherwise it will run all over the place before it sets up.

Another question for chromedog or anyone else who has done this before. I'm about to re-skin the trunk lid, should I apply some of the structural adhesive onto the support structure and then hammer and dolly the edges back into place, or hammer and dolly first, and then squirt the adhesive in between the the skin and the structure afterwards? I was going to do the first option, but then worried I might squeeze some of the adhesive to be too thin while I work the skin edges, check for fit on the car, etc...

to be honest, ive never skinned a trunklid, i HAVE done a ton of doors, and i think if i were doing a trunk or hood (both of which are lying flat) i would mark where the reinforcement is going to fall,bolt the shell to the car, glue the skin down, (adjusting the fit as necessary), let the glue cure, then remove the trunklid, and crimp the edges over.you may have to crimp the back edge over slightly, so the skin will lay flat. ive never had issues with a door that wasnt involved in an accident, but theres always a first time...also, the glue is only there to take the "oilcan" out of the skin, so you can add it later, if you can get it where it belongs (this is how i do doors) one more thing, when you crimp the edges, dont try to get a full 90 degree crimp in one shot... go about 1/3 of the way, all the way across the panel, then go a little further, then crimp it down tight. otherwise you will end up with ripples on the inside of the skin
