what is this timing question

SPOUT stands for spark output

it's the little plug off the end of the distributor harness

it needs to be removed b4 timing changes or the computer won't recognize it correctly. plus , the timing will bounce around and you can never read it right w/ it still in
 
yeah, it removes computer spark advance from the equation, so you can set base timing without the computer messing with you.

yep, if one traces the TFI wiring harness toward the motor, there are two wires which peel off on their own. there is a little grey or black 'chip' connector in the end of the two wires - SPOUT.
