What is this?

I was tinkering with the car and came across this rusty part. It looks rough and the bushings are definitely in need of replacing. I'm talking about metal thing above the drum...in front of the shock.



Also, does anyone have any pictures of a torque box and can you tell me what the purpose is of the torque box.

its a quad shock. designed to keep the axle from twisting at launch

the torque boxes are the places on the body where your rear control arms attach. they hold the axle to the car

I didn't know that this was an option. I've been looking at control arms b/c the car has 203,000 w/ original control arms and bushings. Time for a change.

Yes if you get after market control arms (upper and lower) you can get rid of the "quad shocks".. get a good set tho dont cheap out! they will improve launching and over all handling of your stang!
