Right behind where the driveshaft bolts up, on either side you can see bolt holes where like a brace bolts around the housing. My 'brace' was hanging lower on one side than the other and was loose. Tried tightening the bolts no avail...took it off and it looks as if it serves no purpose. I think the bushing inside of it are just shot.

What is this "brace" called?

Looks like a Red circle with a slash through it (for some reason I cant make-out whatever it is inside).
You were probably not supposed to hot-link to something.

It sounds like you might be talkin about the Moose appendage. It helps with driveline harmonics.

It is a vibration dampener put there to offset harmonic vibrations generated by the driveline.

Lots of people just take it off in the name of weight loss.

Different things we're talkin about here. He's talkin about the damper on the rear end itself.

Hissin are you talking about that weight thing often referred to as the "dog bone"? It mounts under the dif. I took mine off an threw it away an never noticed a difference.

Yep. However, 92Mustang appears to be talkin about the little damper on the automatic DS's (a totally different animal altogether).

With the dog bone, the thing that concerns me is that we are not all that sensitive to harmonics.

Here's a little info on the damper
