what is up with 5.0 guys?

I've had two 5.0's ('89GT,'93GT) and I modded the heck out of my '93 GT. When I got my Mach, it already felt faster bone stock than my modded '93 GT. I like the higher top end of the 4.6. When I hit 2nd gear I'm set back in my seat like my '93 GT never did. The old 5.0's are nice and can be made fast as hell, but the 4.6 is a better engine from the get go I think.

I have both and I like both a lot. They are both great engines...the 4.6 is an excellent motor but it just doesn't have the history that the 5 liter has. Everyone associates the 5.0 with the Mustang and most don't know of any other V8 that has been in the car. Everyone I know with a Mustang has been asked if its "got a 5.0" I like both engines. Stock v.s. stock I know my 95 would take it off the line but the 4.6 will definitely kill it in the end no comparison. the 4.6 is a lot of fun to drive. if you compare a catback on the 4.6 to a 5.0 without an h pipe or anything just the catback , the 4.6 is a lot louder and I love it. The gas mileage of the 4.6 is way better than my 5.0. I can usually get about 300 to a tank in my 02 and only like 175 in my 95. big difference. But both are fun to drive and they are fun for the same reason: Its a Mustang.

There was a Talon at the track last Friday, looked stock except for a big ass intercooler that took up 90% of his front bumper. He ran 11.2s with a 1.65 60'!

As for the 5.0s there are a few in my town that tried messing with me and lets just say they look the other way or stay way back if they're behind me. LOL

Haha I know him! :p

5.0/fox = redneck. Ratted out rusty fox/5.0 = white trash. That's what's up with those guys :nice: :flag:

Not my '93 GT. Bought it brand new and owned that car for 9 years and it was in mint condition. It had a nice 3" Cowl Hood that made it look bad ass. Had more than afew people stop me on the street and want to buy it. When I did sell it, the one and only person to come see it, took one look at it and I had $9K in my hands 30 minutes later. :)

The only Mustang drivers that consistently do not wave back at me are 5.0 drivers :notnice:

Other Mustang owners actually look at you? Sometimes I think I have a disease when it comes to other Stang owners out on the street. At any rate I find the S197 guys to be the worst when it comes to no love.

Speaking of 5.0 I still find people who are amazed that they no longer put the 4.6 in the Mustang or think the 5.0 is available and I have the smaller engine. Even had someone think I had a V6. The one that blew me away was someone who had a 5.0 and had no idea they have been putting a 4.6 in them for 10 years now.

Great topic! I haven't had any specific experience w/ 5.0 drivers being snobbish but I know that type of person that everyone's describing. Alot of Vette owners are that way, stuck up and full of themselves even towards other Ls1 guys! I just like mustangs in general and hey it's all about diversity right?!

Actually my best friend recently got a 5.0 with a rebuilt motor and it has almost the same mods as me. He posts here all the time as SlowHatch and can drive the piss out of his car and might even be a better dirver than me.

ALMOST IDENTICAL

He refused to believe i was that much faster after a race. SO we ran again without passenegrs from a dig. Honestly, at about 110 i was a good 5 cars ahead and pulling hard. He said i ran away as hard if not harder than an LS1 from him. He kept saying it was 3 and always denies it and says its all because i have better tires than him even though im slammed on 18's and he has 15's with a 245 tire on stock springs and we have identical 60' times at the track.

At the track i trap 105 he trapped 99, but still won't say that i run away from him and says with drag radials he will hold me off to over 100. I just let it go cuz its his 1st car and stuff and when i can inch away from LS1's which i know RUN all over him. Its all fun since we've been like brothers since 5th grade.

BUT i'm not stupid either. I know that when he gets a upper/lower intake with a nice cam and a set of heads, i'll be screwed unless i continue modding. They are quick but you are right, some of them hate to admit that the HEAVIER car with a smaller engine can walk away from them in a race on occasion. Its a superiority complex thing. Im 100% positive he'll chime in here soon

The funny think is i get FAR more attention driving my 5.0 around than in my new edge GT. That doesn't mean i don't get attention in the GT, but when i drive the 5.0 around, a lot more people want to race and a lot more people strike up conversations.

The funny thing is, most of these people coming up to me at gas stations or at red lights don't know much about cars, but they always tell me about how the 5.0's were the fastest back when they were new. I've even been followed a few times to be asked if i wanted to sell my 5.0.

The GT get attention, but you see a new edge GT all the time, so you need to have some nice mods to stand out. You rarely see nice 5.0's on the street.

Of course, keep in mind my 5.0 is a pristine condition example that i take care of. It's not some primered out cherry bomb wearing redneck mobile.

It seems like the 5.0 guys are getting worse. They are getting cheaper in price so more of the uneducated people and rednecks can finally afford them. Once they put a Earnhardt sticker and some mufflers on their car its ready to kick anythings ass in their $2k worn out 5.0

I use to be a 5.0 guy and feel embarrassed sometimes to see the type of people who are now representing the mustang community.
