What is wrong with titanium valves for the street (daily driver)?

Just curious because I have been seeing this posted a lot.

I was thinking of doing a little lightning of my valvetrain just for a slight boost but have been reading about how not to use the titanium valves...

What are the thoughts on this?

depends on the heads, rpms, cam. . . . you dont want to put titanium valves in a naturally aspirated e7 headed car that has a e cam! I would just leave well enough alone with your afr 165s. . . You could do alot more to that would benifit you more than titanium valves

EXACTLY! You dont want to have waste your money on titanium valves if your going to be shifting at 5500 or 6000!

Titanium valves would defiantly help out your drivetrain. You wouldn't need to worry about running as high spring pressures to keep the valves from floating also. Pretty sure they are more durable too. Couldn't really tell you much more than that...

Why would GM implement Ti Valves in the new LS7 motor if they redline under 7,000rpms?

Sportbikes have a VERY different drivetrain setup than our 5.0 pushrod engines do. Not a very good comparison at all.

I was not the one who brought up the sports bike comparison! The point i was trying to get at is that it would be a COMPLETE waste of money in his case! He could spend his money better areas and gain greater improvements. As for the LS7. . . . when your spending 80,000dollars on a car it better come with every bell and whistle inside and out!

There is nothing wrong wit ti valves but you can spend the money elseware which you will notice more of a difference. I highly doubt you will notice a difference at all. There are many other bottlenecks before the valves become an issue to merrit ti valves.

titanium valves are great for any aplication even on the street but is it worth the money on something other than an all out race car... not really.... money can be spent very well elsewhere

I was just wanting a reason on why so many people I have seen say "don't do it on a street car"...

Less valvetrain weight will increase performance from idle on up...and it is probably pretty linear. I'm not saying I will feel it...I was just curious about them...

Keep it coming with other opinions...

How much does a complete TI setup cost? Just curious...

Oh, and a 75mm TB is a big waste of money on 302's but many do it anyways When money could be spent elsewhere...

There are definate bennifits to them but for a 30 year old motor there are other areas where you can gain more for less money. This isn't a porche and the typical 302 street engine doesn't wind up the rpms where the ti valves really shine.

I know this isn't much help but just to throw in my $0.02, I don't think there is anything wrong with titanium valves on a street car but I think its a total waste on a street car or daily driver. I don't see the benefit in the dollar to hp ratio. Maybe if I had 20 grand under my hood or an $80,000 car or I was trying to suck every last fraction of power out of my car I would see it differently.

That's all I pretty much do except for the 4-5 times I make it to the track during the summer and a couple full throttle pulls on the street when I have the room.

That's pretty funny you said that tho cause I should be making around 450rwhp and puss it around town. Looks like a set of titanium valves are next on my list!!!
