This morning, my car started making a strange "whoosing" sound. Sounded like it was coming from under the passenger side. So I decided to stop and take a look under, and to my dismay, I saw this:

So basically, what is it? It started to leak. Looks like it's going to split in half! Im too afraid to even start the car right now.

condensation will build around the cats and evaporate there.

Condensation? That thing was sizzling, crackling and popping. Plus is the strange "whoosing" noise normal? I originally thought it was my rear end acting up. But I now see it's coming from this.

LOL dude did you have you a/c on. if so then it is you air conditioning. if not then it is just condensations built up in the exhaust.

Heh, I hope it's only condensation. This was really freaking me out, considering I've never seen this happen before. *keeps fingers crossed*

I already have enough bugs and problems to sort out. (no thanks to diablosport)

That was the AC. Scared the piss out of me once too. I posted almost the same thread back in the day.

Scary? Hell, yeah! When I heard the pipe crackling, I thought it was going to explode!

But yeah, it could very well be the AC. I'm still unsure on what is causing the "whooooosh" sound while driving, though.

I'm starting to believe I have an exhaust leak...

Wish we could be there to hear it so we can be sure, but the wooosh sound is just the water evaporating when it hits the exhaust. its evaporating almost instantly causing the "woooossshh." An exhuast leak will usually sound like lifter tick...but since 4.6's have no lifters you can identify it pretty quickly. Just to be safe you may want to ask someone some time to crawl under and check it out for you...

YOu could have a converter that is coming apart. They will rupture some times and you will hear a hiss and your car will not run very well. Happen to me.

Just took it for a drive again. The noise now seems to be even worse! There's quite a bit of whining and grinding to the point where I can almost feel it on the pedal. Much of this is happening while driving below 25mph, especially when decelerating. I originally thought it was the exhaust, but is now starting to believe it's the gears and/or tranny? I've always had slight gear whine after getting the 4.10s installed, but it was faint and only happened at high speeds.

Look like I'll have to push my dyno appointment this Wednesday back to get this taken care of first.

The noise you are hearing is the condensation boiling on your cats due to how hot the cats get. I would not worry about it

maybe a hissing noise is normal, but not a grinding and whining.

No, it isn't normal. I already have a bad tune on my diablo chip that sets the SES light off while causing my car to ping and detonate. Now this. My car is FAWKED!

And I now have a headache.

I honestly can't see anything wrong by that pic. It looks like water is coming out of the cat.. or that its condensation from the AC.

i would definetly take the car back to the shop that did the 4.10 install and have them check it out. it sounds like they botched ur gear install. how long has it been since u had the gears install??
