What kind of bolt is this?

Anyone? Whats up with the head of the bolt, looks weird.

Connecting Rod Bolt is my guess. There are a dozen or so different head styles for different engines. Without seing this from a different angle it is hard to tell what application it is for.

That's knurling. Probably there to create a press fit in the hole on the connecting rod. Sort of like a lug pressed into a wheel hub.

How would you be able to get a hold on the head of the bolt, a regular wrench or socket wouldnt work, would it?

That is a rod bolt. The knurling is to provide a grip on the wall of the hole in the rod without binding. The head of that bolt does not need to be held with any tool. It is that shape so it fits snug against the machined flat in the rod so that it does not turn when tightening and does not require any tools to hold it.
