What kind of cam should I suggest...

A friend of mine has a stock 5.0 and he asked me to change the cam for him, he wants the lumpy idle and some little power (even if it's 5hp)...

I tried to tell him to stick with the stock bump stick since it's good enough for his windsor heads. He doesn't have more than 9.2 or maybe 9.5:1 compression ratio so I need to find a cam with near stock durration. My guess is maximum lift for his heads would be around 530 or so...

I'm looking at the comp cams book and can't find any ideas to present to him.

Do rockers... Too much work for just a cam and 5HP's. I would even do an intake over a cam in his boat. Way less labor and close price. Don't forget to check clearances!

E303 Ford cam may not be bad for stock replacement. Tell him to save for H/I/C then do it oh and if you go that route screw teh E303. ;-)

e303 is great for a stock motor.... however i would also save for the HCI swap it sooo nice!

if he wants to do an HCI in the future get the cam for that setup... may not do anything if at all now but will sure save money in the future

You said windsor heads, are you talking about World heads?

No they are 1969 351 windsor heads like mine but not ported or anything. For myself I'm using an X303 Ford cam for now since I have more compression ratio and a better flowing head (nice port work and larger valves 1.94/1.6)...
