ummm those cams will lope like crazy. i think what they meant to say was that you'll have to get the computer tuned to make it idle

I've heard bad comments from various people about SHM. Even a guy that used to work there doesn't recommend them. I'd go VT or Comp Cams.

actually these are the mild race cams and i was told the lope would be barely noticeable. also they are a direct replacement, meaning no computer upgrade.

I worked there for 3 years.............and YES those cams lope. You'll require a custom tune for optimum idle characteristics and power. They have less lift than your stock cams, but more duration. Not the best choice for n/a power IMHO. However, if it's a good deal, then bonus.

I bought a set of those cams when Scotty was working there. Yeah they lope and you don't need valve springs but I didn't feel the power was there with my blower.

So now I sold them and I'm getting a set of VT stage 1 blower cams and crower springs.

BTW - SHM customer support went down the crapper after Scott left.

Yes they will lope. Don't know who you were talkin' to there, but they WILL lope! Yes they will add SOME power, but not alot n/a. They work okay with a blower, but n/a they don't pick up much (maybe ~10rwhp). I'd personally recommend saving a bit more and getting a camshaft more designed for your car. Those cams were originally designed for the pre-PI heads (FRPP and non-PI). Hence, the reason for the low lift #'s.

If you're going to the trouble of getting cams, get the correct ones for your application. Scott or Jim at VT can fix you up.

I am getting Stage 1 Blower cams from VT.
I ordered the Stage 1 NA cams and now want to get heads and blow the car in the future. Scott said he would exchange the cams I bought with the ones I wanted(after I changed my mind). He doesn't have to, but is.. That is customer service and another reason to go with VT. Not only is everyone getting good numbers out of their cams, but the service is there also. This type of helpful customer service orientated business is hard to come by and I for one will be a poster child for VT for a long time.

I'm not sure what you're going to accomplish with the timing adjuster with your cams?

Timing adjuster= ignition timing

It has nothing to do with the cam timing. I think you're confusing your ignition timing adjuster with an adjustable cam sprocket like most of the import tuners use. Most of the people that have installed cams have idle problems. Either they die at stoplights or the EEC wants to make the engine idle at like 1000-1200 RPM. This is one of the main things to be corrected with the dyno-tune in addition to correcting A/F and everything else your car will need to extract the most power out of it.

When I get my Comps installed in my '03, I'm taking the car to Apten in St. Louis.

The timing adjuster won't be required after a dyno tuned chip. Some will leave it on and take out timing manually for crappier gas or small hit's of spray.

The stage one cams will work well with porting of the heads. Anytime you can increase airflow through the engine, it is going to make more power. The stock intake is restrictive of the stage2 cams, however, with an upper plunum swap and throttle body (ie: Accufab), the intakes work quite well. All depends on how aggressive you want your car. Either way, you're going to see a wicked increase in top end performance.

scott, i want to say i appreciate all your advice and help...under the hood as it pertains to cams and/or heads. k&n air charger, pro m 80mm, cai to throttle body, accufab throttle body/ intake plenum, mac ceramic long tubes, mac shorty h pipe, flowmaster, dumps, 3.73's, t/a, pullies.. with this in mind, what would be my best course of action??

btw the car is mostly a show car... i have $22,000 invested in mods to date and without sounding ridiculous, want to try and not spend too much more...

Honestly, for your car, I'd personally run the stage2 heads with the stage1 cams. It's not raced on a regular basis, so I think the stage1's will give you the power you want, the sound you want, and the drivability characteristics you demand. My .02.
