What kind of rims are on my car??

Someone on here asked and ive always been curious but could never find the exact series or whatever of the rims on my car. I dont believe they are factory rims, but i could be wrong. They're American Racing and the number on the back of the cap says 899943. I searched and found something about a 511 series but thats all i could find, no pictures or anything.

Those are NOT factory wheels.

Those date back to a time when American Racing used series number's for designations.

Those look like winter tire wheels to me.

This place http://cpcparts.com/products/details.asp?nCatID=57&nSubCatID=189&nProductID=993&nNextProductID=0 says they are 511's too.

It was washed, clayed, and waxed 2 days ago. It gets dirty fast being as the parents get the garage stalls and i get the driveway...mother nature doesnt like my car.

EDIT: so in other words they're probably crappy rims and crappy tires (the tires need replacing for sure, there is NO tread on them...shoulda seen me this winter. First time ever driving in winter, Minnesota, no tread, no ABS, no traction control....i was all over the place. Never crashed though, i have no clue how i managed that)

Speaking from experience driving a Mustang in the winter, put 4 studded snow tires on those wheels and get 4 new 17's for summer. The studded snows transform the Mustang from a total handful in the winter to a slight handful, but only at times and if you make it that way. They are a little noisy and make some vibrations on clean roads, but they rule when it's really bad.

They are actually 16's........and the whole tire+rim is 2 feet exactly.

Im also fairly sure studded tires are illegal in Minnesota. People whined about how they ruined roads or some crap like that and they were "outlawed". Not 100% sure on that ill have to do some looking. I still want 17" silver 00 SVT rims but cant find them for the life of me, only chrome. These ones:

Also another question while im at it. What do all the numbers for tire sizes mean? like 245/15 18 or whatever they are (those were made up as most of you who know what you're talking about know)

And yes i know they suck at handling in the winter. Its fun when you find a parking lot to just whip a bunch of cookies in though...i managed a reverse 900 this winter haha. Also got me an exhibition driving ticket too. oh well, live and learn.

They are 15's. 15" wheels measure 16". 16's measure 17 and so on. The tire on it is a 15. That's what it takes.

Get good non-studded snow tires then. 205/75R15 with LOTS of little nooks and crannies for the snow to pack into. Snow grabs snow and gives you traction. I have had very good luck with Dayton Daytona Winter Track tires. They work awesome and they are cheap.

if your looking for a winter tire try the Bridgestone Blizzaks. I had them on my 94 when I first bought it and never really had traction issues in the snow other than the rear of the car being so lite..

Those are 03 Cobra wheels and you can find those anywhere. Lots of sizes on eBay and gefracing.com should have them for a good price also.

I think you mean donuts, not cookies.

245/45-18 What does that mean? It's simple really. the first part 245 is the width of the tire expressed in metric mm. The 45 is the sidewall height express as a percentage of the width. For example, 45% of 245 = 110.25mm (divide by 25.4 to change to inches = 4.34"). The 18 is the wheel diameter. If you double the sidewall height and add it to the wheel diameter you get the approximate overall tire height.

since when does a 15" wheel measure 16 inches. thats the most screwed up thing ive ever heard

about snow tires, i had a set of 4 Blizzaks on my car this past winter and threw 80 lbs in the back and was able to pull out going up hill in more than 3" of snow without spinning the tires. i was quite impressed to say the least compared to being all over the road with a mere dusting with my summer tires (Cooper Zeon 2XS, a.k.a. Falken Beta)

btw, on dry roads the Blizzaks still handled quite well. they werent too noisy, and were good in the rain too.

When you don't know how to measure the wheel correctly is when.

Lay a tape measure across the face of any wheel and it'll measure about 1" bigger than the tire it takes. The wheel has that lip to retain the tire side wall for a reason.

A = Where the tire actually mounts and that's 15" in this scenario
B = The face of the wheel and that measures 16" in this scenario
C = The lip that retains the tire to the wheel via the tire pressure

Never heard the term cookies used like that. Instead: You might "blow your cookies" if you do too many donuts and get really dizzy.....
