Pop quiz hot shot...

When firing up a new motor, just about everything will change, like the timing, FP, and idle needs. All will affect eachother.

So, what is the recommended order to perform these tuning tasks?

Personally, I have been shooting in the dark, but that seems to be getting nowhere quick.

I am not a hot shot, but I will post my two cents.

I would do the timing first (just set it mild like 10*, stock, for now. You can bump later). Then let it warm up and get the idle right. Then FP (assuming the FP is halfway close - it should be and there is no demand during your run time while doing all this).

Once you do all this and it run decent, you can play with stuff and fine tune.

FWIW, this likely does not apply to you, but on a stockish motor, the puter tries to adapt the idle back down to its preprogrammed setting. So something like the tiny change in idle speed from advancing timing should be compensated for via the puter.

Good luck Jason!

I would also start with the timing... (reason: if the timing is off too much, your motor will not run)

Then do the F/P since the car will most likely be running lean (assuming your new motor is bigger than the last one you took out)

Those are my hot shot answers...!
