What quickshifter will fit standard manual box?

I keep coming across quick shifter kits, Hurst ect, for T-5 boxes but i havent seen any for older boxes.

I have a 68 GT with a ford 4 speed manual box. The guy i bought the car off was a mechanic and he said it was just a regular ford box.

Can i get a quickshifter for a standard box? where could i find one and what parts would i need?

Thanks in advance.

Brian.

You can find a better shifter for our transmissions. However, it is nothing like a T-5. Assuming you have the factory 4 spd, it would be a small block toploader. It has external linkage, whereas a T-5, it's all internal. When you buy a T-5 "quickshifter" it's just the shifter and plate that goes on top of the tranny. Such as the photo below:

There is no linkage in the kit. When you buy a shifter kit for a toploader, you get the shifter and linkage, as pictured below:

I have a Hurst setup and the linkage is more precise than the factory stuff on our cars. However, don't expect your top loader to shift like a T-5 as they are completly different animals. I can shift my car fairly quickly with the Hurst setup. You might be able to shift a T-5 quicker, but I'll never blow up my top loader. Don't think I could say the same about a T-5.

Best thing to do is talk to the guys over at Toploader Heaven or Toploader Transmissions. They can answer any question you will ever have about these transmissions.
