Currently I have a Escort Passport 8500 that I love but I just want to see what everyone else is using and if you have had your current radar dectector and also had a 8500 in the past a brief comparison would be cool. Thanks!

Radar Detectors are strictly illegal in my state, so I wonder how many other states they are illegal in?

Probally illegal in alot of states. I have traveled alot since I am in the military and I have never had a cop pull me over for having it up in my windshield. Maybe I am just lucky.

i'm using the new escort 9500i, its got gps built in so you can cancel out false alarms. it also displays your ACTUAL speed thru gps technology, its kind like a poor mans HUD, looks a lot better now that I got it hardwired.

i remember getting my '93 escort wagon up to 112MPH downhill with the speed display of the 9500i when my speedometer on the wagon only went up to 80MPH, the needle was wraped aroound to the 0 i love that car!

Overall I reccomend if you can pass on the gps feature to just get the 8500 as I have owned both, and save yourself a couple hundred bucks, the actual radar pickup strength is the same.

I got a ticket in VA for having a radar detector and after going to court the fine was $40 for the detector. $250 for 85 in a construction zone

Still using my cheap a$$ Radio Shack. Its paid for itself many times.
Just last week a cop was hiding around the corner in my neiborhood
waiting to catch stop sign rollers where you would never expect.
My radar detector starts going nuts, so I come to a total complete stop,
look around and spot him, smile and nod and off I go.

I used to have one of those remote ones in my '93 Wrangler before it (the Wrangler) was stolen. Worked great, and nothing on the dash to see. I would just open the ashtray and shut it off if I got pulled over. I asked my insurance agent if I could claim the detector as a loss, he just laughed at me.

only place they are illegal in is virginia so far. virginia is getting out of hand with their laws.

I use mine all the time in virginia and have not had a problem. but its nice having the new total shield technology. Picks up the 5.0 quite nicely has saved me many times but i make sure im not being dumb with it either and pulling triple digits.

I rock a Kustom HR 12

I want to upgrade to the Stalker Dual but they are a bit costly.

By the way Radar detectors are a waste of money. Nothing more than a false sense of security.

I have V1's in all of my cars.

And i think as long as you use it as a tool it works great. Living in NJ there are so many other cars on the road that you are almost never alone so cops can't just hit you...mine is most effective in giving me early warnings due to a cop hitting someone ahead of me and my V1's easily warn me 2 miles in advance...so in conjuction with common sense and knowing that everyone hits the brakes when passing a cop on the highway (even if they are doing the speed limit) i've been able to avoid being caught speeding.
