What Radar Dectector are you guys using?

Just got a Valentine 1 a few weeks. I thought the arrows that point where the radar is coming from were stupid at first and whats the point, Man was i wrong, Greatest thing EVER. I never realized how nice to know where the radar was hitting you from. V1 FTW !!:nice:

I rock a Kustom HR 12

I want to upgrade to the Stalker Dual but they are a bit costly.

By the way Radar detectors are a waste of money. Nothing more than a false sense of security.

yea very true they can be a false sense of security. but with a radar detector ur not suppose to be hauling tail either cause if u are the only one on the road when u pick that signal up u better believe that u are already being nailed. U just have to play it smart.

Escort technology plus wireless FTW

Escort Solo S2 for the loss and Valentine One for the win. The Valentine One is the best radar/laser detector and has been since it came out in 1992. All of the other detector makers have been playing catch up since the Valentine One came out.

There's no cordless version of V1
It's possible to run a radar detector on two throw away AAs, but you have to give up any hope of high performance.

Performance takes power. There's no getting around the physics of it. Batteries are weak sources of power. That's why electric cars use battery packs weighing hundreds of pounds, yet few of them can top 100 miles without recharging.

Laptop computers have very expensive batteries — quite heavy, too — yet they're lucky to run two hours on a charge.

A radar detector operates like a sentry making its rounds. If the territory is small, then he can watch carefully and often. Expand the territory and he has time for only quick glances. When "superwide Ka" radar guns came on the scene a few years back, the microwave territory a radar detector has to watch was expanded more than 1000 percent, compared to the good old days of X and K bands only. Now the sentry needs powerful circuits.

"SOLO S2 uses only a fraction of the power used by conventional corded detectors," claims the maker's website.

Uh-oh, here comes the energy crisis.

The SOLO S2's "High-Efficiency Power Management" is hardly rocket surgery. It saves the two AAs by putting the sentry to sleep more than 85 percent of the time. It just switches off the power-using detector circuitry.

A sleeping sentry can't possibly give early warning when radar is used in the instant-on mode. And it gives up all hope of detecting the POP mode.

Sure, a cordless detector would be convenient. And I'll be out in the lab cooking one up as soon as the laws of physics are repealed.

I really like the arrows but what really saved my butt was the signal counter. When i was coming up I-95 through South Carolina my V1 was pegged but instead of just 1 signal warning it read 2, so after i passed the State Trooper and the radar was still pinging i knew another was close by and no more then 1 mile down the road was another in the weeds waiting. With any other radar you would have drove by the first cop and figured the radar was still going from him and probably sped up some and been busted.

escort can do the same thing, if you program it to do so.

yea my sti driver can do that too if i put it on that mode to track more than one signal. I love my detector works extremely well and i love having the total shield.

There used to be a book out called "the fast driver's handbook" it's currently out of print but if you can locate one it's full of good info. Everything from reading traffic patterns to locating revenuers. The technical info is now dated but the driving end of it still applies.
I wish that the fed DOT would just allow certain folks to go to a hi performance driving school, be assigned a bright purple tag and pay $200.00 a year for a license that will allow you to run 100mph in the fast lane. This way the communities would get their "speed tax" up front, and you would only have qualified drivers that could speed legally and everyone would be happy.
Speed kills?, yeah right, stupid drivers kill.:nice:

see that would be pretty cool but then ur always going to have the idiot that decides to try and pass someone in the fast lane and if ur coming up do 100+ and he jumps out in front of u at 70mph ur screwed lol. we have too many idiots on the road for triple digit speeds.

but that would be pretty sweet. I say we adopt an autobahn.:D

I always thought it would be cool if they had a high speed lane and only certified drivers with certified cars could use it. That would help with some congestion on large highways. I wouldn't mind paying a yearly fee for something like that :)

i just got a 8500 x50 blue from a friend, he got me a smartcord wiring kit with it, so .

does anyone have theirs hardwired to a key on wire? where is one?

i got my 9500i hardwired to the radio I think, I just hooked it up to the first fuse that was keyed. Then ran it along the top of the windshield and have the unit just under my rear view mirror. Looks way better without having that coiled cord go across the dash.
