I just purchased an 86 GT. I pulled the diffy cover off to slide the axles out , so that I could install 3" studs. Figured I would ck the gear ratio while I was in there. The ring gear had 41 15 & 423 stamped on it. WTH??? I did some internet research & found nothing. Any ideas??

41 / 15 = 2.73

That's the basic Mustang gear ratio.

It's only an inch or two. What's the big deal?

When ALL ELSE FAILS.... Count the teeth on each gear. Number of ring gear teeth divided by number of pinion teeth= ratio.
