I need to find a shift kit by this upcoming monday so I can have it installed by my uncle. I've already brought him the tranny and he recommended that I get a shift kit that doesn't get into the internals of the transmission. Which means I need a shift kit for the valve body. If that makes any sense.

So I need your opinions on what to buy. Not too expensive but it still needs to be a good company. I have no experience with shift kits and the last time my uncle installed one was in his chevy back in highschool, so he doesn't know who/whats good and whats not.

I know this seems like a vague question but I don't know what else I need to ask about. Thats what you guys are for! Thanks much.

Edit: Forgot to add what tranny I have. It's a C4.

I used the B&M shift kit for my old C4. Valve body just like you have heard. It costs about $30.00. I was able to chirp the tires going from 1st to 2nd gear with my 3.00 gears!! It's a pretty hard/quick shift. I now have an AOD without the shift kit. I miss it. I'll do it to my AOD some day.

So i'm looking at either getting a B&M Shift Improver kit or the B&M Transpak. Their site says the Shift Improver kit works for the 67-69 years with C4s. Will this kit work with a 1966 C4?

Whats the difference between those two kits? One is $50 and the other $30.

Don't expect a 67'-69' kit to work in a stock 66' transmission. The valve bodies are somewhat different since your shifter positions are different--66' has the "green dot" tranny that doesn't manually shift like a more modern pattern 67' and up.

Transgo makes great shift kits. That's what I put in my '66. It went from lazy/slow shifting to firm 2-3 shifts and very firm throw your head back 1-2 shifts.
Later, I switched to a higher stall converter and it shifts like a cadillac now.:D
